Erron Gordon has just retweeted an article about GMA with the comment “We love a tweaked GMB opening too 😉”.

Well, let's see whether this leads to anything. I'd hazard a guess that if the intro will be tweaked, it will be done when Piers and Susanna return.

EDIT: Here are the two intros from GMA from the last two days. I could see the first one working for GMB.

Naa I much prefer GMB's version!

So do I. It's just I can also see the first GMA intro working.

GMB has recorded its lowest ratings in months this week, slipping below 500k.

Monday: 493k (16.5%)
Tuesday: 495k (15.7%)

I’m not entirely sure whether you could fairly attribute the lower ratings to Jeremy Kyle presenting or not. His usual program may be quite popular, but I don’t think his style works very well at all early in the morning. The other daytime shows are rating as they usually do, so it’s unlikely that a large number of people being on holiday are affecting the figures.

It’ll be interesting to see whether the ratings go back up to the 750k region when Piers and Susanna return. Too much silliness over the summer might have lost any momentum that they were gaining.

Also worth bearing in mind the huge numbers of people who are out of the usual work/Home/school routine with the last couple of weeks before schools go back lots of families away on holidays everywhere is quieter.

And the Breakfast ratings? It's the summer holidays, they must be low too

GMB is going to suffer more than breakfast in terms of school holidays I think. Breakfast has always been a aimed at a more professional target market whereas ITV has aimed for more mums on the school runs etc. Not an exact science but possibly something in it? I also have to agree that there’s a been a few too many silly moments, milking a cow at 8.20 and doing ‘air guitar’ in the studio at 7.55 has possibly been a little too daft.

I wonder if they’ll possibly change the TOH sequence to include the whole team, the way the 6am opening is going is all about the whole team around the desk. They could start doing this with the TOH?
Susanna introducing the lead news item, Piers introducing guest/debate topic, Charlotte with second big news story, Richard with the Showbiz/Entertainment item, and then Laura doing a weather preview into the titles. Then the opening chat at the desk.

That suggestion for TOTH of yours is very good. I like it 😀

Breakfast is actually doing better than it was before the summer, which makes me think that some GMB viewers have switched over. I’m sure people on holiday/out of their normal routines has affected the figures somewhat, but the figures have been higher over the summer so far.

As for a tweaked opening, anything more complicated (like the GMA sequence) would be derailed by Piers rambling. The current TOTH style leaves no room to deviate from the script.

It’s no good the audience for this show being based around a single partnership that is on screen 3 days a week and takes the summer off.

They have failed to develop a secondary partnership that works as well, despite having so many different stand ins over the years.

The random presenter ‘B Team’ doesn’t work they need to focus on developing another partnership and stick with it.

I think the best B team GMB have ever had was the Ben & Kate partnership with Ranvir on headlines (who I think works better as a newsreader rather than a lead presenter).

When Piers joined a few years, I always thought that it would have been a good idea to have Piers, Susanna & Charlotte Monday to Wednesday, and the above B team for the other two days. However, I suppose this wouldn't have worked out had the ratings collapsed towards the end of the week, whereas the current, fairly inconsistent, mix of presenters weekly in a lead role (Piers, Susanna, Ben, Kate & sometimes Charlotte & Ranvir) means that it's more difficult to attribute lower ratings to a particular host.

For comparisons sake (albeit going slightly off topic), are there 'B teams' on the US breakfast programmes? Whenever I've seen clips, the majority of time the main anchors in the US seem to host Monday to Friday, are deputy anchors just used to cover holidays, and would they utilise their weekend anchors? Also do the US hosts take as many weeks off as ITV Daytime main anchors (usually with the school holidays)?
