Christ - have you not figured out how the show works yet? Piers IS the show.

No, Piers isn't the show, rather opinions are the show. The show is nowadays all about giving vent to the hosts' opinions, rather than actually doing coverage. Piers in the one everybody talks about, because he is the most obnoxious, trumped up, farty little smeghead, that it has been my misfortune to see on a TV screen!

Piers, Susanna, Charlotte and Kate at the desk today. First time for a while they've had four main hosts at the desk.

You’re reacting to him though. I can’t stand the bloke, at all – but I can see that that’s kinda the point. He’s interesting to watch, and the fact he’s getting you seemingly so worked up shows that there’s something about the programme. It does nothing for me, but it’s engaging in a way other breakfast show attempts have not been (and I’m actually thinking of previous ITV things rather than BBC Breakfast).

This argument is well-worn and I’m surprised you still can’t understand why it works (to the perhaps limited extent that it does)!

Why was Kate there? She hasn't appeared any more so far.

Wild guess. Might it be something to do with the potential of the joint biggest news story since the Second World War?

Kate is game for a laugh so having her in makes sense.

They had a flagship interview, more important than hitting the top of the hour.

BBC Breakfast have done the same

I probably should have added some context. If they are running late because of a flagship interview, that is fine by me. But for 7 o'clock, they were 6 minutes past the hour and looking back at 6 o'clock, they didn't get to the top story until 6:12. It just appears to be a bit silly to grant Piers 11 minutes at the start of the show.

This is the style of the show now, while Piers introduced these long chats and rants at the start, they do this every day even when Piers is absent. As has been mentioned before Breakfast and Sunrise start their main news at the TOH so GMB doing their top story and other headlines from 6:10 works well. And it also means particularly Piers opening rant can create some tabloid headlines.

I think she was there getting that England hair style thing - it was mentioned at the top of the show - I assumed she might have done showbiz too (unless Richard was in too?)

Coming from you, that's quite something.

Loved the Croatian link up with Zagreb. That guy basically looking at the wrong camera the entire time...

I suspect it's partly because of Piers Morgan links to Trump as to why he is on Thursday and Friday - they want people to tune it because he might rant about the protests and on Thursday he can comment on England's success or failure.

To be honest it will provide some balance. All we are going to hear is from all these people on the bandwagon who don't like Trump because oh he's this ist, that ist and the other ist.

It will be refreshing to have some pro-Trump views on television.

Very good point. The way things are reported, you could be forgiven for thinking that everybody in the UK hates him. That’s far from the case.

It would be 'refreshing' to see some kind of unbiased news and informational programming on TV. We're in a sorry state of affairs and frankly have Americanised and populised our TV programming when Piers Morgan frothing at the mouth with glee about a controversial political character arriving on our shores is viewed as 'balance'.

British news programming is about as unbiased as it gets.

As we've said before, GMB is not a news programme. It contains news bulletins which remain unbiased.
