Regarding the Channel Four Daily, did TVam insert the ad breaks?

Yes, they did, and subsequently the Big B until Dec 31 1992

I remember that during TVam we couldn’t get the local pages of Oracle, but at some point (and I think this was before 1993), this changed.

That would be right, TV-am always by-passed the regional ITV companies, the regional Oracle pages were inserted at the regional companies (or at least those ITV companies that had their own local Oracle pages)
From Jan 1 and GMTV that changed, and the signal passed through each company. However Oracle
of course died the same day.

Teletext Ltd pages (local and national) were all inserted at the primary regional transmitters (updated via 14.4k baud modems from HQ in London)

I could never understand that if post 1993 GMTV was routed through local ITV companies, and it was coming from TLS, it still ‘splatted’ at 5.59.59 and 9.24.59, on analogue and later on DTT. Surely it would all be in sync for hte regional opts.

Indeed with TV-am selling the airtime on Channel 4 at breakfast time, there was a glitch on Channel 4 at 0925, when the holding slide or rotomotion device came on screen, as the three minute filler for schools programmes to start.

The networking arrangements during GMTV were completely different to those during the remaining day. During GMTV time LNN was providing all the regions with discrete macro advert breaks according to GMTV's requirements - at 9.25 this changed to a clean network feed with pulses to the regions. The splats were the results of switching within LNN to reconfigure the network. Even the handover between Carlton and LWT on Friday still had a element of switching within LNN initially until the companies harmonised.

The GMB main desk is now extendable to allow 3 additional people to sit round it. It’s a shame the extension isn’t lit up, or using the same colour blue as the main part of the desk. It looks pretty decent though

Looks as though the new studio went through some changes before it launched. Also, can’t get my head around the sofa area and the image on the camera of the same area.

It looks like a monitor that’s transmitting the images coming from the camera seen to the right of the picture.

I get that part, but it's the image on the screen behind Richard that looks different, as though it is off but it's not according to the monitor on the camera.

The extra section of the desk looks alright but I agree it would look better lit up. Also slightly annoying that it doesn't make a flush join to the main desk. In general though it's a much needed addition since they have 3 guests often now. Still not much room though.

They do look rather squashed! Couldn't they have had the left hand guest nearer Susanna to give them a bit more room? They look like they're sat on an Underground train sat shoulder to shoulder like that.

I’ve already mentioned this, but I find it annoying that they don’t use the sofa, even when they have an opportunity to. Interviews around big news stories around the desk makes sense, but when you’ve got celebrities in to talk about some hike their doing, there is no reason not to use it. I’m sure we’ll see them use it in later weeks but something about the presenters being around the desk the whole or most of the programme makes the whole thing feel very static imo.

The desk extension looks like it could be used as a stand-alone desk
