I’ve always wondered why they don’t do the link to Lorraine towards the end of the show. That followed by a recap of the headlines, the weather (or both) then back to the desk to say goodbye would be a calmer way of ending, though with the timings on GMB as they are I doubt that would happen cleanly at all.
Yes, a lot better than what usually happens, which increasingly seems to be cutting off their final guest at 8:29am and garbling "ah, right, here's Lorraine!" at the speed of light before
her character
appears.
The ‘rush’ to handover to Lorraine is a bit awkward, no matter who’s presenting, and is even worse on Fridays when Lorraine is pre recorded and can sometimes cut them off mid sentence. Having a proper close every day would be a lot cleaner, allowing them to finish and then the music would make the whole thing sound/feel more smooth.
Exactly - the idea that a proper close would lead to channel hoping (they go to ads anyway) is nonsense. I find it the same with both the BBC national news handing to the regions and the end of the 6pm ITV regional shows crashing into the Evening News. A proper close at least and ideally an ident would look much more professional.

To be fair, I don't know about everyone else but Granada Reports does have a kind of proper close into the main news.

As does London.

Due to the novelty value of my currently being away from home in a different region (Hannington TX), I briefly flicked over to Gormless Moron Briandead circa 07:10 in the vain hope that the regional bulletin might air at anything like the correct time.
Was greeted by the "pre- TOTH" national weather occurring at about 07:10, and the "TOTH" itself occurring at about 07:12. I have no idea what preceding occurrences had caused the timings to be this far off (nor do I care).
It's astounding how utterly incapable this programme seems to be of adhering to the intended timing structure, like Breakfast manages to do. Timings going wildly off-kilter once in a blue moon would be fine, but it's a bloody miracle if GMB actually runs to time.
At least Piers & Susannah threw to Charlotte for a quick news-brief immediately post-titles, so the regional bulletin was at about 07:14 which wasn't such a bad delay.
There does seem to be some prolific outcry on social media for piers to be sacked. Personally I couldn’t agree more, the execs have got far too carried away with letting him say what he wants. Recent comments regarding gender seem to have went too far, again in my own opinion.
