As I think we've touched on before, Susanna's transformation into tabloid trash is pretty much complete. On several occasions she has been complicit during Piers' rants against gender issues and proven she's not the forward thinking woman she likes to make out. As if to fully establish her transformation she now has a Daily Mail column.
I would argue most of Piersâ views on âgender issuesâ are moderate. Iâd like to hear the ones youâd regard as not so.
Mocking trangender people by 'coming out' as 'trans-slender' on air.
Persistently ridiculing Sam Smith's decision to come out as non-binary.
(Susanna later said he "chose to go non-binary")
Linking a debate on transgender children in the girl guides to a story about a rapist
Various innuendo during his Caitlyn Jenner interview
Shaming the Brits for scrapping Best Male/Female in favour of Best Artist
The sort of discussions had on that programme on a regular basis, if said about gay people would be considered an outrage.
In fact I could give you examples of some of Piers' homophobic work during the 1980s. I'm sure that would have been considered 'moderate' in those days.
1. I donât think Piers is transphobic as it seems youâre trying to suggest. Thereâs been a number of transgender guests in the past, India Willoughby most notably, Caitlin Jenner you mention and at least one other in the last week or two iirc. In fact, Piers reiterated the idea of gender being Male, Female or Trans, suggesting he has no issue with people who are transgender, instead tasing issue with the idea of up to 100 gender terms.
2. Society is constantly adapting and evolving, however the idea of being non-binary is still a bit undefined as a subject. The idea of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender is being lumped together with a number of other gender and sexuality terms and I donât think itâs particularly extreme to say itâs actually confusing the real issues for those who are LGBT.
3. The Brits scrapping gender categories does limit the number of artists getting awards by half. Leading award ceremonies still have gender categories and its important to make sure male and female in all industries are recognised. The majority of people are either Male or Female, wether they identify as LGB or have transitioned, they are all still either Male or Female, albeit some by birth and others are trans.
GMB is tabloid in style but I donât any views expressed are particularly extreme and most are mainstream views.
