Yes, we know.

We all watched it on launch day in 2014.

Well, that was unnecessary. If you don't care, just skip over the comment and leave it for someone who might.

I don't think anyone really thought it would last this long

GMB has a turbulent first year on air, just like the programme of the original name back in 1983.

Today ITV seem to be very happy with it. It does look like it is the best they can do at 6.00am weekdays and there will be no intention of axing it, or changing the format too much.

We have seen a load of changes over the years, since the awful Daybreak started in 2010. Nine years later it seems at last ITV is happy with its breakfast programme for once.

It may not be number one in the ratings each weekday, but you have to admit, with Piers at the helm the show does get press coverage each week, which helps ITV a lot. BBC Breakfast doesn't, but continues to glide its quiet, but still number one ratings path.

Its very 'bottom of the barrel' press coverage but it seems to work. Clearly ITV is trying to put its self in the best position to be sold. Anything and everythinghelps when it comes to publicity and advertising.

Breakfast on ITV has had shall we say a "colourful" history and it seems as TROGGLES said they're finally happy with it. Make you wonder if they'd just hadn't franchised it out in the 80's.

There's a whole batch of alternative history theories one can go down for all kinds of things.
In fact Breakfast TV in this country as a whole was quite late into the history of broadcasting, when you consider other countries like America had had breakfast TV in one form or another since the 1950s.

I wonder if Good Morning Calendar/Good Morning North in 1977 got the IBA interested in breakfast tv?

Actually the principle had been tooted throughout the entire 1970s after they lifted all the broadcasting restrictions in 1972, but there was more important things to worry about at the time.

Very true. There was a video on YT showing an attempt by BBC Radio Scotland to simulcast Good Morning Scotland in 1980. From what I saw it was clunky.

Radio studios on TV don't really work well. Camera angles have to be compromised because of the equipment and big microphones tend to cover up people's faces.

Have you not seen The AM Show in NZ? Their set has all the necessary radio equipment, yet it’s all very non obtrusive.
