Absolutely loving the new set...unsure as to how much the weather 'station' is going to be used effectively. Essentially the weather isn't any more detailed than it was before is it? Laura mentioned yesterday (Monday) that she is able to now keep an eye on the weather right throughout the programme, but as far as I can see, is it not just a table? I couldn't see any inset computer at all...

Question re the gorgeous new screen behind the desk - on the 4 way split 'LIVE' screen yesterday and on the 'Coming up' screen, is it just me or does that actually look super-imposed? If so, why have that huge screen and not use it as such? Surely it has the ability to be used for all the above? It just looks a different sort of image that's all...like I say, it might just be me - but on the live shot, we saw the graphics on the screen and in the very next presenter shot, it was back to being St. Paul's again. Interested to know what anyone else thinks.

The fact that ratings are constantly increasing would suggest that most viewers aren’t that bothered.

I myself think that people tune in to GMB because of Piers and his ranting. Ever since he joined in 2015 the ratings have improved massively.

My mother-in-law records GMB every day, and plays it back in the afternoon or evening. She's not in the least bit interested in the (proper) news content. I suspect although probably in a minority as far as recording it goes, clearly not alone being attracted to the show's style and presenters.

Does she ever tweet them to tell them the clock’s wrong? Wink

To use a breakfast analogy, GMB is in Johnny & Denise territory. The ratings are nothing compared to GMTV's heyday, but they've stabilised and crucially, they're making headlines, and people are talking about it.

but would the noise of the This Morning crew setting up and rehearsing be audible to viewers in this case.

How are they going to rehearse when GMB are using the gallery?

Think that depends on your definition of 'massive'. AIUI GMB only recently hit the levels previously hit by ITV Breakfast during one of the Daybreak eras didn't they?

On Friday - Breakfast 1.4m/37.4%, GMB 500k/17.5% (Shares and volume don't quite match because durations of two shows are different, and yes, I know Piers wasn't hosting)

However the Breakfast 1.3-1.5m vs GMB 500-600k theme seems to be reasonably consistent through April so far. AIUI historically there is a ratings bump of a small but significant amount when Piers is presenting, and it could be ITV and their advertisers are happy with their ratings and are still making a decent amount of money.

What ITV are doing - sensibly - is analysing what they can do that Breakfast demonstrably can't - and are then doing it.

However I'm not sure Piers and Susanna are demonstrating that specific presenting talent makes a massive different to ratings, just that it can make a small but still useful one.

Keep things in perspective though, BBC Breakfast and GMB audience figures combined, are dwarfed by radio at that time of the day.

They might be dwarfed by radio but very difficult to drive to work watching the tele in the car isn’t it, I think the analargy is rather contrite.

Overnights are in :

Breakfast 1.5m 40.4% share
GMB 700k 20% share

Good figures for GMB relative to earlier shows this month - but they were without Piers?

I’m not sure if I’m quite missing something or if I’ve been watching a different show in the past.... but viewers moaning that the presenters now sit behind a desk?

"ITV's brand new studio"
"The channel has moved to White City"

If only they knew...

It's still bugging me that they used "live from itv studios in London". I would be quite happy if they said television centre in London but I know they would never do it because it just screams BBC.

Laura uses a Macbook at her new desk.

Well, it depends.
Something like 'Live from the ITV Studios at Television Centre in London, this is.. "
Would cover both bases and dilute the BBC aspect to the introduction.
