Charlotte back on newsreading duties this morning, back from what she called a ‘holiday’ in Australia. Not sure where the mirror got the idea she was covering I’m a celeb as far I known GMB/Charlotte haven’t covered I’m a Celeb in any detail.
It was in Piers Morgan column in the Mail on Sunday Magazine apparently.
I think that style could work for the 7am and 8am openers, although with a full news bulletin rather than just the headlines. Going straight to Charlotte with the news stops Piers going off on a tangent when they are already behind.
Slightly different 8am Opener yesterday, throwing straight to Charlotte and omitting the 'with Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid' voiceover.

I know they are most likely just trying out a different way, but part of me wonders if it's to do with the increasingly blurred lines between news and opinion. Having Piers & Susanna reading the news headlines followed by a rant by Piers could raise Ofcom issues if investigated.

You make it sound like they don’t like Piers going off on a tangent...
It looked like there were 2 interviews scheduled between 8 - 8.30 with local news, break and competition and weather to cram in. They had to sacrifice the news to a summary.

Just from the small bits of the program I’ve seen recently, the lines seem to be becoming increasingly blurred. This was especially clear yesterday when the breaking news came in about the British academic being released from prison; Susanna attempted to deliver the actual news whilst Piers chirped in over her with his opinion. Piers can have his own opinion, but at least let the viewer hear the facts for themselves.
Indeed. I don't think Ofcom's rules have relaxed that much. The programme carries enough ITV News branding, looks like a news programme and I think they will run into problems unless they start differentiating news from opinion.
