If you look at American breakfast shows they always have music performances. Especially from British artists. I personally think it would bring in more viewers if they had promos during the daytime to say for example Dua Lipa will be performing her new single LIVE or The Vamps, Arcade Fire, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles. Plenty of choices out there.

I don't think music does particularly well in ratings terms in the UK. (One reason why it is almost always at the end of shows is that it is better for ratings to lose them at the end of a show than earlier...)

Plus US morning shows have higher budgets that allow for sound checksa and rehearsals for bands whilst the main gallery is on-air. (Rather than having to do them during regional opts as Breakfast used to...)

They generate some buzz, and can have a 'halo effect' - and for the US shows they add some energy to their final segments - but they are seldom ratings gold.

As well as that there aren't that many artists now that use daytime tv for promo as with streaming etc it doesn't make a dent. Back in the late noughties daybreak and all the other daytime shows would have performances by various artists, probably most frequently the Saturdays Wink

GMB aren't relying on real journalists for their output. Which for me is a major turn off- but the opposite for for their target audience.
Tina Daheley is a great example of the BBC nurturing talent, she's also presented Victoria Derbyshire's show recently and done a good job.
My issue with GMB currently is that I don't understand their audience. I don't understand why you want to listen to daily mail style broadcasting when you wake up and need to get ready.

Instead of bringing in 'big names' who are unlikely to want to stay

What do you think happens to this 'new talent' you want to nurture once they have been on a national breakfast show for a year or two?

Have to say I was pleasantly surprised how good Richard Madeley was.

Lorraine getting a new set. Again. Doesn't make sense if they're leaving TLS next year.

Or maybe it does, because the set has been deisgned to be struck and moved to another studio?

The idea being suggested on here that the on screen look of a programme has to be placed on hold until it moves to a different studio is baffling to me.

I really don't think that the new set is the reason for 'GMB Today'. There are a number of alternative solutions if it was simply a new set. Clearly it was decided to give the format a go as opposed to it being a last resort.

Indeed - or why the look can't stay the same. You won't notice the difference on screen if the same set is in a different studio.

Do you rekon they’ll have Richard on tomorrow or another presenter due to the terror attack

Do they have anybody more likely to do a good job? Richard is an experienced journalist and newsreader, albeit perhaps not so experienced in breaking news, I'm sure he will be a safe pair of hands

Yes. He or Eamonn would be good. I suppose that if it happened to be a Jeremy day tomorrow, Richard or Eamonn would stand in

Bigger, perhaps more applicable question in this case, do you think they will deploy a presenter to the location?

Do they leave Richard alone in the studio? Sit side by side with Sean?
