I think Jason2016 has failed to understand Lorraines slot has been around in its current format for 20 years. Where has the time gone???
But she's not going to be wanting to keep going forever. She's 57, she's been on breakfast television in the UK for 33 years, more than half her life. Semi-retirement or even full-on retirement may soon be on the cards for her, so, it kinda makes sense to plan out a version of Good Morning Britain that does go onto 9:30am, and use her holiday time to give it a test run.

She not one for doing nothing, I say she'll keep going for another 8 years until her pension at least. ;P
I'm stunned at such chauvinism. A forum that's usually up in arms at the likes of Mark Austin, 58 and Alistair Stewart, 65 being underused, suggesting Lorraine is ready to be pensioned off at the age of 57.

Hardly chauvinism. Daily live shows are a real grind, and she might be wanting to move away from doing that soon. She's been doing it for 33 years, and there comes a point where the human body can't take that kind of strain anymore. Maybe a regular weekly show, or maybe even two editions of Weekend every week, becomes her new project, which maybe she films both editions of on a Thursday or Friday.
These are possibilities, I'm not saying they're definitely going to happen, but I can see why they might considering looking at a permanent extension of GMB to 9:30.

Another 1600+shows seems to be an awful lot though when it comes to it. And that's if she wants to do it. I don't see her retiring but I do see her cutting back her schedule somewhat. There's only so many early morning wake up calls the human body can take.

Again, have never heard these concerns voiced for any male newsreaders/presenters. But seeing as Lorraine is being afforded extra special concern, she famously takes plenty of holidays and seems to enjoy what she does.
Well it was just a thought. As her ratings are higher that GMB they may want to incorporate her into GMB.. Doing that may increase GMB ratings and reduce the number of sets at wherever ITV is going to be next year.

How many male presenters have done 33 years worth of daily shows? Only probably Alistair Stewart has come close to doing that, and nobody doubts he's gonna be retiring or going into semi-retirement sometime soon.
Old Father Time is and will forever remain undefeated.

Yes I imagine that's exactly what they are doing. They are extending GMB for two weeks in the middle of August as a trial to see if it would work all year round in 15 years time when Lorraine retires...
I expect it is more as a way to help out with holiday cover on Lorraine's show, not needing cover on there as well as GMB both in front of the camera and behind.
And yes this forum criticises why Alastair Stewart doesn't do the news every day and why he doesn't stay up all night for elections anymore, but wants to pension off Lorraine. Has she ever given the suggestion she wants to bow out, she's just a as bright and breezy as she was on LK Today 15 years ago.

Because it worked
so
well the last time they tried tried that - Daybreak Mark II.
