It wouldn't be that much of a challenge looking at those two wideshots of the GMB studio. Take away the desk, swap the sofa cushions, put in a table and kitchen, change the image on the windows and it would be fine for This Morning

TLS5 is 210sq m, and TVC2 is marginally bigger at 223sq m. Couldn't they just have standing sets for GMB & TM on opposite sides, and simply swing the cameras round after removing the GMB desk, but still use the sofa area?

It could appear totally different to Joe Public, especially with altered lighting.

That's the usual way of doing it. On the original Good Morning Britain set the kitchen set & other bits were opposite the sofa to the left of the camera man in the picture. No one ever guessed that Wacaday was in the same studio for some of the time..

Of course when Bob Warman was reading grave news on Central News at Six he was staring at large cut outs of Hey Arnold! and Brian from My Parents are Aliens on the CITV set directly opposite.

I thought the Kitchen was to the right of that picture? while to the left was were Wacaday and Wake awake club come from?

STV had the same, when Opp Scotland Today was Glen Micheal set and Scotsport. Mind you maybe it help Bob out. Im sure there was one other ITV company that had that sort of set up, I can't remember who,

The kitchen was to the left of camera 2 in the picture. Wacaday was further round from approx where the picture was taken along with other detritus Smile I'm sure somewhere I have a picture of it but ill need to scan it. For what its worth that sofa was bl00dy uncomfortable to sit on.

I would really like to see a set design that could work for multiple shows when they move to TVC. I realise that's a massive design challenge but could be impressive if it worked. They're going to be short on the space they're used too and time will make it tough to make major changes to sets if programmes are being filmed in the same spaces.

But let's be frank - the GMB set is extremely ugly.

I would totally disagree.

Also I would suggest that if they're set sharing then it would work better to have Lorraine and This Morning sharing since they're more similar shows and they'd only need a little bit of relighting and cushion changes etc. Both shows use kitchens and catwalk areas too so it would be easier for them to share.

GMB could share with loose women. Simply change out the desk, maybe bring some panels into the studio to cover the weather and sofa areas and bring in some seats for the audience. That would make more sense in terms of sharing in my opinion.

I too would disagree, really excellent set design in my opinion and it's nice to see them reguarly tweek elements of it in order to keep it fresh.

GMB did win an award for their set design:

Totally agree, the current set in my view is the best set any ITV Breakfast show has had. And its nice that they decide rather than changing the set completely every few years to rather refresh elements of it as they go along. The wisest thing to do would be to keep the current set at Television centre and when the southbank studios reopen then introduce a brand new set.

I believe Spring 2018. So most likely March/April next year.

Will be very disorientating to see a shot of Television Centre with the voiceover 'live from ITV Studios'.

(Also I don't think he's confirming a new set there is he? Just saying they'll be in a new studio in a new building)

"Live from ITV Studios at Television Centre"?

They should try some phrasing to make the casual viewer think the BBC has lost power and ITV gained it. Got to be subtle mind. "Live from the former BBC Television Centre, now in the hands of ITV" Shocked Or - inspired by the Wacaday tangent, "Live from Dick and Dom's former bungalow".
