Embarrassing 7am opener which ended with Piers in the middle of the headlines saying: "Tell you what this is all going horribly wrong so why don't you can it and we'll go sit down".

Pretty unprofessional, I thought. The wrong pictures were shown for one story, then Piers and Susanna were visible for another, before the pictures and graphics lined up again. Susanna was continuing as normal so it seemed a bit churlish and pointless for Piers to announce that they should just 'can it'.

Churlish and pointless is Piers' brand though.

Will be very disorientating to see a shot of Television Centre with the voiceover 'live from ITV Studios'.

(Also I don't think he's confirming a new set there is he? Just saying they'll be in a new studio in a new building)

"Live from ITV Studios at Television Centre"?

Yeah I agree, it was quite unprofessional from Piers and credit to Susanna for carying on (ever the professional). Have to admit though, I did find it quite funny!

On the two different points there:
Piers - The entire point of him being there is that he's always one mis-step away from going full Network. With the BBC dominating the market for cosy breakfast show content he's there to be that bit of unpredictability. The flip-side of that is that he'll occasionally lose the plot or get you in trouble, but I'd say people are tuning in for the possibility of that. Like watching F1 and waiting for a crash.
The intro/ITV Studios - I'm guessing ITV is trying to make the fact it's from the heart of London a major selling point in comparison to BBC Breakfast's snug semi-regional news studio. This is also probably wise as it's a point of difference, but a far cry from the day when they ditched Big Ben from the News At Ten as it was "too London". (which was a bloody stupid idea, as much as I appreciate the four Parliaments being in the titles now).

Watching it I disagree. There was a technical fault, and rather than awkwardly pretending it wasn't happening, Piers made a joke of it.

I noticed a change in the openers this morning. They no longer go to the presenters shot at the start as instead they went to straight to the VT with the graphic animating after the Ident has finished playing:

Also, I've noticed that they are starting to frequently scrap the 8am TOTH now and use the shorter TOTH sequence instead.

They only do it if they're running late (which happens often), or have a big interview in the last half hour, like yesterday with Amber Rudd.

I see Piers is winning praise from ITV colleagues about his "scoop" on the BBC salaries story. Oh wait, he had the same info other journalists did, but just broke the embargo - presumably because he craves attention.

I don't see much point in embargoes anyway. Why not run with the story as soon as it's verified?
