The share was no doubt helped by the fact that it's been so hot lately and there will generally be less people watching TV

Precisely the opposite - share should be unaffected as it's a percentage of people watching TV. Unless you believe GMB viewers are more likely to go outdoors in hot weather than Breakfast viewers?

No I believe that there are less people casually watching repeats on lower rating channels therefore pushing up the shares of the more appointment to view shows (at that time of the day) Breakfast and GMB.

Miniscule numbers.

As I say, ratings are affected by the numbers watching TV overall. Share isn't. That's the whole point of reporting share.

Is there any evidence to say that fine weather affects breakfast-time viewing significantly?

Clearly in the evenings there will be people who choose to enjoy an evening in the garden in the sunshine instead of sitting in front of the telly. But is this the case in the morning when people are getting ready for work or getting the kids ready for school? Certainly in my neighbourhood, I'm not seeing everyone out in their gardens having breakfast. I suspect most people carry on as normal at that time of day whatever the weather.

Do we even do outdoor breakfasts in this country? I mean when we get some decent weather lots of people get the barbecue out in the evening. To do the same thing at the other end of the day, well it's the sort of thing you might do as something different when you're on holiday somewhere but I think the trend these days is to either scoff your cornflakes at the table in your dressing gown or go without and grab all-day breakfast/brunch somewhere - irrelevant of what the weather's doing. IMO.

The Big Breakfast used to move outside in to the garden on warm summer days and did the show outside.

In the early days of GMB they tried it, but assuming it proved a nightmare as it hasn't happened much since.

I guess as Good Morning Britain has become more newsier (and more successful), it would make sense for them to go outdoors where the news is I suppose rather than the River Thames.

In 2014 it worked really well, and I don't remember any technical hitches. When they tried it once last year (and made a big deal about it) it didn't go very well and they abandoned it after a few minutes. If I remember correctly, Ranvir had to cover until Ben and Kate got back.

I really hope they do bring the programme outside this year, maybe for the whole show

Perhaps a summer roadshow around the uk highlighting and including more our towns and cities to show the non london bias is not alive and kicking!

In Austria, Guten Morgen Österreich is broadcast from a different location each day. However, the set is just two trailers attached to each other with a total area of 35 m². There are a variety of reasons as to why this wouldn't work for GMB.

It's an interesting concept that's used by Guten Morgen Österreich, though I'm surprised that they move every day as it sounds a potentially very expensive operation.

I really do wish some of the national broadcasters, like the BBC and ITV would show slightly more of a presence in towns and cities across the UK in ways other than with local radio. With GMB though, I have to say I do agree that they should present the show on the banks of the Thames a bit more as I can't imagine it being too much more difficult to achieve than simply presenting in their usual studio. When they do it though, I think they should present all elements of the show from outside rather than presenting the news from the studio for example. I didn't really like what they did in 2015, though I thought what they did in 2014 was much better.

I'd like to see GMB go on a "roadtrip", but I'm not completely sure it would work that well with GMB's fairly news-based focus. There would of-course be the argument of whether the cost to move the show around the country is justified - are people going to care or notice enough to warrant the cost? That said, I think it would work much better with Breakfast, and I think that as the national broadcaster and with perhaps slightly more of a focus on less-serious topics than GMB it would be easier to pull off and justify - but with the BBC budget cuts maybe this too is unlikely?

It all sounds pointless to me. They have a perfectly good studio.
