I wouldn't be surprised to see GMB share a studio with This Morning, though that might be problematic on the occassions when GMB is extended through to 9.25am (didn't they even go to 10.30am once?).

Grays Inn Road is a good call but I don't know if they'd get away with a virtual set for GMB.

They broadcast until 10.30am unexpectedly due to the Brussels bombings last year. Otherwise the latest it broadcasts is 9.25am at about a rate of once a year.

Obviously they are able to switch over the Lorraine studio to the Loose Women studio in the space of 3 hours and they're two very different sets. If they kept it to just minor modifications I'm sure they could switch the GMB set to the This Morning set in a space of 2 hours. Usually the times when GMB extends to 9.25am, an ITV News Special usually replaces This Morning and the whole morning schedule anyway.

Surely they could hand over to ITN rather than GMB staying in air in such circumstances?

If planned in advance, yes, but in a breaking news situation it's probably a lot easier to ask GMB to continue than bring in a new team.

I heard that people at BBC Studioworks were concerned at retaining Studio 2. They thought it was a tough studio to sell out to production companies at 3,430 Sq Ft. That is why Studio 2 for the moment is not fully equipped and will share resources with Studio 1 and 3, as well as just hiring in resources when needed.

Apparently they are very keen on a permanent show occupying Studio 2 before they bother to fit it with full resources. There was word that the studio will act as a rehearsal studio or even storage until a permanent production comes in, so GMB, Lorraine would be perfect for them.

I thought TC 1 will have its own gallery, and TC2 and 3 will share one, but actually all technical resources can be shared across all three ?

TC2 apparently will not be fully equipped. The galleries for all three have been refurbished, but TC2 will not be fully equipped until a permanent booking has been arranged. Until then, equipment will be hired in. Which makes GMB coming to the studio attractive for them, as it will be a five day a week booking for maybe two years until ITV open the new scaled down London Studios on the Southbank.

But is there the production space for GMB? How many of the office floors above the studios will be part of the building that's leased back by the BBC?

I'd have thought the connectivity to the site would have to be souped up somewhat for a programme like GMB too

The offices & associated production areas are on the upper 3 floors (there is further floor in the basement). You can see where they are on the attached photograph (when TVC was being built). TC1 isn't built yet and is to the right. TC2 is in the middle and TC3 is to the left with no roof - the offices are sited behind the main studio wall. You can see that there isnt that much room, remember the rest of the doughnut is the hotel. The studios will share a technical are but since the impending closure of LWT studios it is looking likely that TC2 will be more than just a storage area as originally envisioned and get its gallery equipped sooner rather than later. I had heard that it would be the home of Watchdog and possibly Crimewatch but that is not confirm-able just a rumour.

Watchdog and Crimewatch have both come from TC2 in previous incarnations of the show, and makes a lot of sense with the current on air look to send them back to the same studio - with Watchdog trapped in some poor Crystal Dome knock off outside BH, and Crimewatch - live from the scene of a crime.

So for GMB/Loose Wimin, if its not TC2 - where? I'm struggling to think where it goes if ITV don't want to go to the expense of converting a new facility to house the show.

Elstree is an outside shout, but may be hobbled by distance from Central London, even though guests would be going against the morning rush.
The Hospital Club in Covent Garden won't want them as a week long perminent stuck set (well, not unless the money is good)

Pinewood/Shepperton Studios can be safely written off. There are question marks over the future of 3 Mills studios in Bow.

We know there is no reasonable space at 200 Grays Inn Road.

Millbank - if there is space could be a possible (hits the connectivity and close to Central London boxes)
Could put them in a glass box with a live view over the Thames - naa. News? From a glass box? Silly Idea..!

The former Captial Group Studios in Battersea (which TVam considered for it's HQ for a short time) is that even there now?
All of which, via process of logical elimination - leaves one of the studios at the rebuilt Riverside Studios in Hammersmith.

It's a pity Viacom converted into offices the studio centre in Hawley Crescent in Camden., because I'd like to have seen a breakfast television programme come from that facility...
..oh, wait a minute. Very Happy

Right so not really suitable, as you say not much room and the lack of windows probably not that appealing either.

Of course there would be nothing to stop it just being the studio and technical production facilities and have the production teams elsewhere in proper offices
