Without wishing to fill this thread up with mocks, here is another based on some of the feedback from my rough idea.

The clock and ticker are replaced separately, with the ITV logo over the clock, and the colour of the strap now the same as one variation used on the programme.

Not sure whether to include '+1' next to the ITV logo as well - would it be unnecessary duplication (since it says you're on ITV+1 next to it anyway) or does not including it defeat the whole point?

I’m not sure you need the strap over the ‘ticker’. Just the ITV or ITV+1 logo over the clock will do.

I agree. Maybe make the clock background the same as it is on the normal ITV feed?

The +1 channels are regionalised and consist simply of a server recording the main channel and playing it back an hour later. There is a simple slate driven by timecode if there's a need to blank out a legal or other technical fluff but there is no way of keying or changing the output. For the sake of a handful of people each day it would be cost prohibitive to add expensive graphics and keying facilities for each regional +1 so don't expect this any time soon, even if your paint package is itching to imagine what it might look like!

Hey, it’s just a bit of fun, and a heck of a lot more interesting than what this thread usually consists of. And give me some credit, I’m using GIMP not Paint!

In any case, this has all come about because there actually is a permanent DOG on ITV+1 but it’s useless because it’s so small you can’t actually read it. If it was just made more legible we wouldn’t be talking about this problem.

If they're going to put an overlay on top, they may as well just put the actual time on.

The Trump interview ended with an ‘ITV Studios Daytime’ endcap.

It’s obvious common knowledge that GMB has set up the interview but the irony can’t be lost on a daytime production airing at 10pm in the evening.

I think the daytime team were hammering home that point by using that end cap, as I’m not sure they usually use one like that actually in daytime.

Yeah, they normally just use the same standard ITV Studios endcap you see on Corrie and Emmerdale.

‘Didn’t Dan Walker do a fantastic job with that world exclusive Donald Trump interview on BBC Breakfast’...said absolutely no one.

With respect, I find this a bit unneccessary. Well done on Good Morning Britain for getting the exclusive, but I don't think it's very nice to crow about it. Over the course of the year the Beeb will get their fair share of exclusives as well, and doubtless ITV will show clips from those and talk about them. They certainly did last week when Andrew Marr had that exclusive interview with Emmanuel Macron. I didn't see Marr goading Robert Peston about that. It all evens itself out and all broadcasters benefit from co-operation between each other.

Besides, there have already been examples of famous people refusing to go on Good Morning Britain because they don't want to be interviewed by Morgan, so it's swings and roundabouts, isn't it?

I’m betting POTUS and his chose Piers because he knows him personally and that the interview would be “friendlier” than others - look at all the Fox interviews he’s done. As of this writing he likely won’t even do the traditional Super Bowl interview and that’s as light hearted as you can get. Probably because an NBC News anchor is doing it.

It’s still an incredible get for ITV and Good Morning Britain considering the duration of the interview. It was about 45 minutes or an hour long? That’s an incredible amount of time. Usually presidential interviews last 15-20 minutes tops and that’s considered lucky.

I know and I was teasing! Bring out the gimp! (Harry HIll sideways glance: Ah, he was, last night at 10pm)

And sincere apologies I had forgotten about the DOG - I can't recall if it disappears during breaks or is there all the time? If so there must be a timecode based driver for it so perhaps more feasible than I originally remembered. It may be keyed on at a software level by the replay server although I have in the back of my mind it's an Axon card that's doing the work? Memory is fading in my old age so apologies once again.

But the argument still remains that someone will need to pay for the chain to be re-engineered to make this happen and if it was that much of a ball-ache to ITV they'd have sorted it by now!
