The biggest problem with it was at this time of year - dark backgrounds do not make for a warm looking morning programme.

A dark city background is fine for evening news programmes, but not so much for breakfast TV.

To be fair, empty rooms with chairs doesn’t look warm either, but its good enough for Breakfast.

Just out of interest, instead of using the pre-recorded backdrops that hardly ever reflect what it looks like outside, why dont GMB use the live camera used for the ITV London backdrop?

Someone doesn't remember the amazing view Daybreak used to have as their background

Well, the ITV London camera backdrop or indeed they could use the old daybreak studio

Ah yes, lets move the whole programme to a studio which is meant to be knocked down next year!

To be honest, the Daybreak studio from 2010-2012 looked very good, but it was a bit dark in September - January time.

I’ve always said the best version of Daybreak was the original one with the London skyline.

Speaking of skylines, they’ve changed the sofa backdrop to the same purply-dark colour as behind the desk, whereas before they used the orangy or blue backdrops

New interview in the Evening Standard this evening with Piers, in which he confirms he has signed to present for another year.

Interesting how part of signing on for an extra year he now gets to turn up at the studios at 5:30. Only 30 minutes before GMB goes On Air!

Well tbh Eamonn was late to this morning on occasions, so he obviously only got there just before the show starts so I dont think ITV really mind about times that presenters arrive

That's a bit different, there are clearly issues of practicality. If you knowingly book a presenter who is on air until 9 in a studio at least 45 minutes away, you have to accept that they are going to be rocking up with not a lot of prep time.

Fully agree, and the darkness was nothing that couldn’t have been dealt with, with some nice lighting onto blinds and a bit of imagination with the window screen panels they had.

It was a totally impractical use of the studio with the production offices being at the other end of the building and a lift journey away. It would have been more sensible for the production offices to be on the first floor below St7 (ex-LNN News), and for the TLS office operation to move to the 4th floor in the tower block. Was never going to happen and it certainly wont now.

That and they should have created a set other than the windows. Despite being on air later in the day, there have been some occasions where winter episodes of This Morning have looked very dark outside, but it doesn't make the rest of the set feel less homely.
