It's the same melody, very little difference apart from the instruments used.
But my point being, it was the 1996 Christmas jingle they used to haul out every year. The 1996 theme was the strongest overall.
And to bring it back on topic, no one is going to notice if the 2014 Christmas theme is used because all versions of the GMB theme are fairly similar in style.
There is already a Christmas version of the theme which I imagine they will use as normal.
That theme however is a Christmas version of the 2015 theme. They might create a christmas variation of the 2017 theme or they might go back to the old theme during the weeks before Christmas.
If they did that, they would have to go back to the old graphics too. I think they'll just make a 2017 version of the theme.
Some of you guys are so argumentative. Thank you though for reminding me there was previously a GMB Christmas theme - can’t believe I forgot! Wouldn’t it be nice though if they updated the graphics to add some Christmas elements too!🎄🎄🎄🎄
The Big Breakfast used to use a Christmas version of the original theme, even though they'd changed the year round theme half a dozen times since.
They did that in the final years, but 1997-99 had a Christmas version of the 1997 theme.
92-95: Original Christmas Theme
96: No Christmas Theme
97-99: 1997 Christmas Theme
2000: Christmas version of 2000 theme created but ditched in favour of original Christmas theme
2001: Original Christmas Theme
2002: Dead.
The point was about the original year round theme having changed though, which it hadn't until 1996. 97-99 was a Christmas version of the 97 theme, then the original Christmas version until the end. Also, there was no Christmas version at all in 92-93. That was introduced in 94.
All the examples show that if the new theme is close enough to the original, then a Christmas theme based on the original isn't seen as a problem. Nobody noticed that they'd gone off brand for 4 weeks with GMTV or the BB
I’m sure they’ll just re-use the old stings. They shouldn’t go mad with Christmas like This Morning does, GMB is a news program after all. A full Christmas theme at the TOTH wouldn’t really be suitable for news content.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Charlotte decided to leave the program fairly soon, given that she seems to be the last choice to present. Ranvir is now presenting more than Charlotte. Whilst I don’t dislike Ranvir, she is far more suited to ITV News than a lighter news show.
Is that not because Charlotte is on Strictly, and the 'rotas' would be planned assuming she was still on. Plus the eliminated stars still have commitments to the show.
Charlotte has pretty much gone from second choice host (she used to deputise Susanna directly when the show was led by Susanna alone) to probably 4th female choice, and now they're bringing in guest hosts to cover Piers/Ben rather than using two female hosts there may be even fewer opportunities.
That said there is nothing to suggest she's leaving. Ranvir though seems to have been on double shifts all week covering both on GMB and the Evening News. She's definately had the biggest boost to her career from the axing of Daybreak.

Potentially, although Charlotte has been newsreading as normal this week I believe.
The rota situation has never made much sense to me. When Piers was absent and Susanna, Charlotte and Sean were already in the building they’d get Kate or Ranvir in to present as well. Instead of getting a fourth presenter in, why not just have Susanna and Charlotte present, with Sean newsreading and doing the sport?
I believe Sean has also been reduced to relief newsreader now.
