I couldn't disagree with you more. It felt boring this last week and (I realise this sounds stupid) too conventional breakfast TV. Piers, no matter how the papers report it, has saved the show for me from being what it was last week.

Totally agree. Piers is the show's USP.

Piers has ruined the show IMO, he's too controversial, for example, it's like if Katie Hopkins was to join Loose Women or Nigel Farage was to become itv news political editor, it would ruin the programmes, I've said it before and I'll say it again GMB needs a Newshour, and get rid of 3 presenters at the desk, only newsreader should be sat there, maybe a hint of yellow or orange in the set, and get rid of that horrible music, then they have a formula.

Rotas.

I jest... in Nathan's defence (I know, who'd've thunk it?(, I will say I think he damages their news credibility, and I also think there's an enormous double standard in letting the presenter of what is ostensibly an ITV News programme openly express their opinions on current affairs not only on their own air, but also on other channels as well.

I can't for a moment imagine ITV (or indeed Ofcom) letting Susanna Reid get away with similar behaviour.

Nigel Farage presenting news is not at all comparable to Piers presenting Good Morning Britain, as Piers is a journalist of many years and is therefore more than qualified to present a programme of this nature. Nigel Farage has no background in journalism or presenting news, so that comparison doesn't work.

Daybreak (2012-2014) tried a newshour approach and they decided to get rid of that for Good Morning Britain. Clearly they didn't believe that worked as well as having one team taking you from 6am until 8:30am.

There's no reason the presenters should not sit at a desk. In my opinion, seeing the presenters at the desk makes for a professional, authoritative looking programme, and gives GMB a point of difference compared to BBC Breakfast. Fluffy rubbish about Robbie Williams' new tattoos take place at the sofa area and I feel this approach of 'desk for news, sofa for lighter stuff' works well.

Also, there is yellow and orange in the set, but in small doses. The Daybreak (2012-2014) set was initially slated for being too in-your-face as it was predominantly yellowy-orange. Also, the set won awards back when the show was new, and I doubt they'll be making massive changes to it for a while yet. In any case, I'm afraid the idea that the addition of colours to a set will make the show better is ludicrous.

The GMB set is unique and different to the previous breakfast incarnations on ITV as it's not to in your face.

I prefer this set over anything they've had previously and by the looks of things it's here to stay as each September, Jan, April we speculate and speculate yet there are only minor tweaks made. And if I remember rightly I'm sure the GMB Set won 'Best International Set' a few years back

Indeed it's only the second time a desk has been used as the main presenter area under any incarnation of ITV Breakfast.

The first is the original set of GMTV in 1993 with the fireplace.

The Newshour was very popular, as I remember Matt and Ranvir were too.
GMB To begin with in April 2014 the content was great, but 4 presenters sat behind a desk, it felt too americanised, and they tried copying Sky News's music, In January 2015 it was just right, until they started messing about with the music, format, Piers Morgan joining.
These days it's like an ad for Twitter.

Hmm yeah I forgot about that.

Though that was only the main area for the first hour and following news updates. I was more talking along the lines of the whole show.

I wonder if ITV have finally admitted defeat re viewing figures. GMTV and all the different Daybreaks were scrapped because of low figures. GMB still doesn't get the amount of viewers ITV hoped for. It's still getting slammed by the BBC when it comes to numbers so maybe now they've finally realised that they're not going to get over a million mark because it simply doesn't deserve it. Maybe this is why they've brought in piers and haven't made any major changes to the show and we are coming up to three years. GMB and BBC Brekkie are two completely different shows and this is why there is such a gap in numbers. The presenters graphics sets theme tunes can be changed a million times or more but the fact is it's the content of each show that's most important and this goes to show with the numbers.

Plus it only lasted a few weeks, before it was axed. With the news moved to hide the empty newsroom.

Exactly.

I also don't understand the need for a newshour. Do people watching between 6 and 7 prefer a different product?
