What he has done is exactly the same as what Trump is doing by snubbing certain media outlets. Of course, when Trump does it, it's childish and a threat to the free world. When a Liberal film star does it, it's taking a stand.

You do realise Donald Trump is US President and Ewan McGregor is an actor?

The principle is absolutely the same.

If he wasn't going on to GMB because Morgans a friend of Trumps and Trump is boycotting the media.... then it would be hypocritical.

But he says he's doing it because he disagrees with Piers Morgan which is a bit different

The professional troll accusation is an interesting one, and at the heart of whether this version of GMB survives.

Piers does "troll", but it's the old-fashioned version of troll - it's not just abuse, it's based on being provocative to start discussion. He has a news background and isn't just someone who is just abusive to get numbers. That is the difference between him and Katie Hopkins for me. You could replace Katie Hopkins with an Action Man-style figure where you pull some string to get a random insult.

That kind of act is a bit of a tightrope, and so easy to get wrong. His Twitter behaviour on Saturday came across to me as erratic and over the line. It probably wasn't helped, however, by the fact you can't judge tone in the written word as easily as you can on television.

It's going to be very interesting to see where it goes from here. The fact Piers has disrupted the cosy breakfast couch consensus is a good thing, in my view. But it's a fine line between being interesting enough to get attention and saying something that ends up chasing swathes of celebrities off the couch, or offending the target audience. People are fans of the whole "tell it like it is" style until it's aimed at them.

Last week everyone was happy he slagged off that woman and the £350 bill for shoes. ITV want mind at the moment since its getting GMB in the media, and talked about.

I'm afraid I just don't get how someone who is ostensibly an ITV News presenter (easy there, pedants!) gets to flout impartiality regulations like this, not only on his own programme, but by appearing as an editorialising guest on other broadcasters' programmes. If any other presenter were to stand up in explicit favour of any other political figure or partisan cause, they'd be off-air instantly.

Now, it may be that Ofcom would only have jurisdiction if he made a statement akin to his tweet over the weekend on GMB's air, but even so, doesn't there come a point where ITV have to say to themselves: "Is it worth shouldering this liability and denting the programme's credibility when - even with the increased ratings Piers Morgan's presence brings - the BBC are still beating us almost two-to-one?"

I guess the get out clause is that GMB has somebody else in a newsreader role. Therefore it can be argued that Morgan is the presenter of a magazine programme which just happens to feature news. It's not much different to LBC employing Garage really.

No, but he does still have to lead live news coverage. LBC wouldn't let Farage do that. (Love the inadvertent auto-correct, by the way!)

I still dont get why Mrs Reid and Mr Shepherd doesnt present the show 5 days a week. Its such a strange practice. IMO its hard to build that relationship between the audience and the presenters if its a rotating cast with wildly different views, so that the programme has a different "tone" each day. So odd.

As for Mr McGregor not appearing on the programme... that is his right, he is not a politician an he can choose where he likes to go and who he wants to speak with. But having Mr Morgan in this position may prove to be "liability" for GMB if other A-Listers choose to refrain from appearing on the programme because of Mr Morgans views. Just a thought.

Distractify says about Mr Morgan :
Quote:
"Piers Morgan hasn't annoyed anyone for more than a week, so the universally hated TV personality fired off a tweet in hopes of reminding us why we should be grateful that he was ridiculed off of US television and shipped back to the UK in an old Amazon box."
I LOL'd

Little thing - Susanna Reid is not a Mrs. Reid - she's not married.

She's either a Miss Reid or a Ms Reid- or just Susanna Reid.

Are there increased ratings? If so they are presumably pretty small... It's not as if Susanna and Piers have had a massive impact on them. They MAY have had a social media impact, and Piers is undoubtedly able to generate some online 'buzz'.

I do agree that it is a very odd situation, to have such an opinionated presenter on what is ostensibly supposed to be a news and current affairs show...

Nope, tabloid myth.
I sense some desperation on the part of Piers lately especially with a new boss at ITV.

The pairing of Piers & Susanna has raised the profile of the programme substantially, in the same way that Johnny & Denise did for The Big Breakfast.

In neither case was there a significant ratings boost, but profile is still important on its own merit in terms of attracting advertisers.

Actually the same could be said for This Morning. The profile the show has, you'd be forgiven for thinking that ratings are several million rather than barely scraping 1.
