All Christmas decorations have been removed from view as a result (one can only imagine) of the terrible news stories being covered this morning at the desk area.
The serious music was used coming back from the break into the Entertainment news.

They were both in today anyway.
This mornings show was very news focused. The whole show works better in breaking news mode.
I agree. Piers & Susannah are excellent at handling breaking news. I'm surprised that they didn't use the 2014 theme with all of the news featured in the opening.
The light bit at the end without Bradley Walsh felt very needed after all of the heavy news featured.
IMO breaking news reveals alot about a presenter and a broadcast. If a presenter can barely string a sentence together without ummm-ing and uuhh-ing and pausing and sounding like a robot on crack, then frankly they arent that good and have no business in a presenting role. Reading shouldnt be the high bar for a presenter. Thinking on your toes and drawing on your knowledge to present smooth flowing coverage is the goal. Brings to mind Hala Gorani at CNNi and how well she handles breaking news off script. I was kinda shocked how shambolic Dermot Murnaghan was over at Sky News. It was complete ......show. He seem irritated with the gallery telling him to vamp for a bit and kept trying to break away and obviously couldnt figure out what to say. And it was cringe-y to watch/listen to. He kept say something like, "they want me to keep talking"....or something like that. No matter whats going on behind the scenes you never let your broadcast sink and unfortunately i was less then impressed. I thought GMB did a good job.

Sometimes, though, it is important to let the pictures do the talking, rather than inanely ramble with speculation over them.
True, but when you are supposed to be speaking, speak like a human, not sound like robot or passively aggressively chatting to the gallery.. A presenter is there to disseminate information. If the presenter was unnecessary then they would just show pictures and scroll words at the bottom of the screen, they dont. And if they cant speak smoothly its not easy watch as a viewer and becomes quite irritating IMO.
This a great example of smooth vamping and going off script during breaking news. The good old days of sky news. (Yes I know it double-headed)
As shown here, the trees were moved back in for 7am onwards:
The show was on form this morning as always in this situation and I was pleased to see Piers and Susanna this morning. I'm hoping they were off yesterday because they're doing the rest of the wee but if they came in today to cover the story on their day off then thumbs up to them.
