As much as he annoys some people he is a more credible anchor than Ben Shepherd and I think it's good to have someone in breakfast TV who isn't in the usual cosy morning presenter mould. I still think the problem though is more the people around him - maybe I need to let it go but I struggle to see beyond the GMTV relics of Garraway, Arnold etc. adding very little of value to the show and just putting me off watching completely.

The thing is Arnold and Garraway are part of why their viewers stay loyal. When GMB first launched it gathered 800,000 roughly. That was with a new format and new style, but not long afterwards the figures dropped and weren't stable throughout the year. Maybe they gained a new target audience. But lost the audicence they had before. So thats practically why the 2015 refresh happened. It was so similar to GMTV and we saw an increase in Garrway's appearance because thats what most of their viewers wanted. And not surprisingly the ratings settled a bit.

People didn't love GMTV because of the name. But because of the presenters and simplicity of the show. That's why GMB is practically a evolution of GMTV.

Has he made any difference to the ratings?.

Had its best week ever, audience share wise, last week.

I think GMB has got into the This Morning comfortable position where they don't have to market lead in their time slot as long as they have the target audience for advertisers. Both the breakfast tv slot and mid-morning are past their best, but as long as they get in the advertisers and right audience, it doesn't matter if they're not beating the more worthy shows on BBC One.

Or is it because there is some black hole in the production offices of ITV Breakfast that just keep drawing the show back to GMTV... I do wonder how many of the production team are ex-GMTV bods and are just reverting to type or didn't see anything wrong with GMTV and want to return to it)

I suspect there's a clash between what the viewers want and what London media types want - see the bizarre ITV logo for evidence of that.

What they have now is a show which appears to be gaining viewers, is gaining a bit of a personality and can switch to serious breaking news mode if required. It's fluffy but it can do serious. I suspect that's as close as we're ever going to get to something which pleases bosses/advertisers and the viewers.

I think the addition of Piers is helping and that's coming from myself who wasn't too keen. The show has also proven itself that when breaking news happens or something big has happened, it can produce a good programme. It will never beat Breakfast at that time of the morning, but the show has seen an increase recently, helped in part by big events.

Piers is also handy to have due to his vast contacts, none more so than President-elect Trump.

Well tomorrow we will see the studio decorated for christmas. And most likely hear christmas beds played. Has anyone seen any photos on social media showing the studio being decorated?

Excluding the changes to the set the decorations look nearly the same as last year. They need a darker backdrop for the windows in the sofa area to complement the dark backdrop in the desk area. If you notice the first hour of the show, in the sofa area they have the summer backdrop alongside the dark main backdrop. And then at 7:15 they change to the lighter winter backdrops, which match.

3 out of 300-odd. So hardly critical mass to fulfil this annual conspiracy perenial
