I haven't seen the interview in question so really can't comment on the specifics but in general having seen snippets of Piers past interviews on GMB I have to say that he's not suitable for the role of interviewer.

I grew up watching Jeremy Paxman on Newsnight in the 1990's and have to say his style was correct. Questioning politicians and extracting answers is a necessity and expected in this age but there has to be an innate courtesy and respect (but not to the point of sycophancy and deference pre Robin Day). Emily Maitlis and Kirsty Wark and IMO excellent examples of the required style.

As regards the twitter nastiness I'm saddened but not surprised. I do feel as @allnewphil stated above that the fate of poor Caroline Flack (RIP) still hasn't sunk In with the f-wits in this world.

Pretty much every post on page 74 sums up why I've stopped watching GMB when Piers is on it. I just can't bear his style any longer. If you have a different opinion to him, you're wrong, and it's just not acceptable to conduct yourself like that when hosting a live national news/current affairs programme. He knows how to run the country better than the government. He knows what measures need to be put in place to slow the spread of the virus better than leading scientists. Disagree with him on anything and just be shouted over for the remainder of the interview. He's turned GMB into a televised tabloid front page. I'll stick to 'boring' presenters like Ben any day over that.

I notice that today they've removed the 'NHS England' logo from the backdrop, and replaced it with the message 'NHS We love you'.

Sadly it still looks like a LWT / Rainbow / Care Bear / Rainbowbrite mashup. Nasty. I preferred the purple backdrop

There was never nothing ‘England’ about it. It’s just the standard nhs logo... same one that’s used in Wales and Scotland and Northern Ireland... NATIONAL health service.... rant over... we do exist across the borders too mind...

The NHS has different logos in Scotland, Wales and NI actually.
