I do agree with everyone who says Piers should let people speak but he does say what a lot of us are thinking and I agree with him calling people morons on this occasion - I've agreed with him throughout the last 3 weeks too
People's actions over the last week have been getting me more and more annoyed
There were many people who were still going out to the pubs 1-2 weeks ago because it was only advisory, many people were interviewed on TV and most agreed pubs should be closed but were there anyway. Many others were posting pics on social media like naughty children saying look at me I'm at a pub going against the advice but I don't care because I will be ok if I get it - disgusting attitude
The scenes over the weekend of people packed into supermarkets like sardines were shocking, we should have had people queuing outside 2m apart and only letting in a certain number at a time (piers pointed this out and I was sat there nodding like the churchill dog)
Then we have all the selfish people who went travelling to the coast and quiet little towns potentially spreading it all over the place, clearing out local shops of supplies and putting more pressure on local health services who are not set up to deal with such big numbers who may now have it thanks to their stupidity
We had 1,000's of people packed into parks, no social distancing. Had I turned up at such a place and seen it like that id have been straight off in the opposite direction yet people just did not care. same in outdoor markets probably busier than ever
People were treating it as a holiday, people were taking the mick and I was furious so yes I was with Piers Morgan in calling them morons because if we give jusification to everything like the message wasent clear then nobody takes any personal responsibility at all and because of that many thousands more will have got the virus that weekend and many more will end up in hospital
I live with one of the 1.5 million most at risk (confirmed on monday via text). I've been warning people what was coming for 4 weeks and 2 weeks ago I made the decison that I would not be leaving the house for at least 3 months maybe 6 because there is no point them isolating if I go out and then bring it back, with the best will in the world they would probably get it even if I did everything to keep away from them so I'm not taking that risk for 4 reasons
1) They don't get it in the first place
2) They don't end up in hospital taking up a bed that someone else would need to be given a chance
3) we don't give it to anyone else - taking responsibility which so many others don't
4) we don't end up in the impossible situation of having to watch a loved one left to die because there is no more beds, ventilators or staff - that is the reality here and this is what is going to happen. people need to realise this is the most serious event of our lifetimes and although they may be ok, their mothers or grandmothers who they went to see on Sunday despite being told not to may be dead in 2 weeks because of their actions. even across the road from us there is an elderly couple and on Sunday 2 cars pulled up of family going for lunch - I despair
on a wider note why are we only now converting that centre into a 4,000 bed hospital - it should have been done weeks ago
Why are we only now telling places like Gtech that we need 30,000 more ventilators, they could have been making them for weeks
The government say they did not change strategy when they clearly did and piers is right to call them out on it
The idea was to let as many healthy people as possible get it whilst protecting the elderly and vulnerable, I agreed with this from what we were told until the day they changed course and we found out that people advising the government had said in a best case scenario 250,000 would die and if those most at risk were not protected we would be looking at 500,000. twice as many people for the current stage of the outbreak needed hospital treatment than they expected and at peak we would need 8x more beds than we have so the government slammed on the brakes turned the car around and are driving back in the opposite direction as quick as possible and only now are we following what every other country has done - yet they insist it was always the plan. rubbish
I've lost count of the amount of times we have heard "we are following the science" but the science changed and so did their plan, we were heading for a disaster, we have been slow to react throughout and now they say anything under 20,000 deaths is a good outcome. compared to 500,000 it is
Younger people seem to think it won't affect them badly and for most it won't but I've seen many stories this week of young fit healthy people who are in critical condition. they are more likely to survive as their body fights off the disease whilst machines keep them alive where as older and compromised people won't have the time to do so and if people don't start listening many won't even get a chance of treatment and will be left to die. All those selfish people who were out partying this weekend will expect to be saved if they need hospital support in 2 weeks time whilst depriving people who by no fault of their own got it and may be denied help to save them instead
lots of people online are shocked that they are agreeing with Piers but throughout this he's been great. I don't agree that he's scaremongering or hysterical he's telling the truth and he's as exasperated as many of us with the government's actions and communication but yes let people get a word in Piers, let people finish their point, Don't keep shouting over people and being rude to co hosts as they desperately try to get 2 seconds of speaking time in during a 4 hour programme.
Oh and do you think Susanna Reid might have been in self isolation this week? I don't think they mentioned it
From a tech point of view the vast majority of the Skype style interviews have been good with little break up and we have seen lots of 3,4,5,6 way split screens. I'm glad they have brought back the old opening sequence too even though it only gets played at 6am and 6:30am most days
They have really got the timings under control, I've seen people moaning about them cutting guests off but a hard break means they get the headlines at the
TOTH which is what most people will be expecting and its nice to see them sticking to times for once but maybe asking a guest a question with 10 seconds to go is not the best idea
I do think the competition should be dropped from GMB. As I said last week its very jarring to go from this serious news to here is Andy Peters - MORNING you could win a car, cash and a third prize we can't talk about at the moment
Overall I think the team are doing a great job and I now watch it instead of Sunrise on Sky now called KayBurley@Breakfast and I'm a fan of hers too
