"Just don't watch" is not good enough. Whether I choose to watch or not is not the point.

Piers Morgan stirs up hatred towards minorities by hand picking "PC-gone mad" stories which cement and give validation to the bigoted views of those that are watching. And I have trans friends that have been mocked using some of the lines he has been allowed to spout on ITV.

This is not faux outrage. It's pure rage.

Piers also has a habit of moaning about the BBC licence fee. You can guarantee that in July when the BBC salaries are released, Piers will spend a large time hammering them over this.

He will then say he is a big supporter of the BBC, pure hypocrisy.

Whether you agree with the licence fee or not, it is here to stay until the end of 2027 under the charter agreement but Piers and many BBC bashers seem to think a contract can be torn up easily.

You're starting to sound like the Twitterati who get outraged at every little comment a sad little man makes on television three days a week.

If viewers didn't like what he said, they'd turn off. GMB is hardly the most watched breakfast show and is beaten by Breakfast or national radio shows. The more people get outraged by him, the likelihood of him being kept by ITV is more likely.

Piers is no different to Julia Hartley-Brewer, Nick Ferrari, James Whale and other numerous presenters who's job is to get people talking, from what I can see he's clearly wound you up and others too.

I'm no Piers fan, but I can see why he's still there objectively, regardless if he offends certain groups which is part of the Moron package.

His showbiz column is full of subtitle attacks on 'wokeness'- more so than two years ago.

Well, wokeness is more of a "thing" now than a couple of years ago. Unfortunately...

What is so bad about being generally socially conscious though? 'Woke' is nothing new and dates back to the 1940's.

Like 'PC', 'woke' just means 'awareness of not being an ar**hole'

I've never understood why some think that's a bad thing

Well, political correctness and wokeness are fundamentally different.

Political correctness means don't be consciously or subsconsciously rude about or discriminatory towards others for an immutable characteristic of theirs. That's awareness of not being an arsehole - that is, as dbl put it, being "generally socially conscious".

I've never had a problem with PC. I don't want to live in a country where minorities are shouted out, abused, insulted, and so on. I want us all to just get along!

Wokeness, to me, seems grounded in a system of so-called privileges where, even when the "privileged" try their hardest to be PC and really genuinely believe in it, they're still secretly a racist, sexist, homophobe, etc.

PC had a chance of succeeding - it was driven, in part, by positivity and optimism. Wokeness dooms us all to failure because there is no possible way to escape from your supposed privileges (or lack thereof).

PS. I am a white, male, able-bodied, and straight heterosexual so I have hit the privilege jackpot. I say that in jest of course - I don't want anyone's pity Smile

PPS. Add GAMMON to that (even though I don't think my cheeks turn red when I am fuming about what the Daily Mail or some other such newspaper is telling me I need to be fuming about).

"PC gone mad" is just code for "I wish I could be racist/homophobic/sexist" etc.

The fact is being an idiot on television brings in viewers. Look at the formats where we celebrate fools, Love Island, Big Brother, TOWIE and other similar shows where the moronic are celebrated.

Morgan does two things, he winds up groups he sees as non-mainstream such as vegans, those who support the left, LGBT etc and brings in fans who see the world in his "PC gone mad" mantra. A staple of conservative style speech broadcasting that has been around for decades. It's nothing new or different, but has been proven to work. His time at CNN would have given him the skills to deliver in that style where confrontational broadcasting is more common in the US.

On the other hand it doesn't always work, such as Laurence Fox's appearance on Question Time in Liverpool last week where his comments on "white privilege" tanked except for those who are on the alt-right.

The other side to watching him on GMB is seeing his colleagues squirm at the nonsense he pumps out.

The trouble is shows are so desperate to go viral they try and force things that have worked well previously (and quite naturally) to happen on an almost daily basis. When he started he'd rant when he had cause to rant - now he does it both on screen and on Twitter for the attention.

Ironically I suspect if the ratings battle with Breakfast was closer they'd actually be more careful - they feel like they've got nothing to lose being a distant second, but if there was not so much distance between them I think they'd be much more risk averse when it comes to Piers sharing his views.
