Think legally itv breakfast lists Gmb as as a news programme so as a presenter of it Piers Morgan is an itv news presenter

Yet Bill Turnbull and Charlie Stayt manage(d) to bring-in an even bigger audience without resorting to personal attacks on multitudes of people......Daily rants. Offensive behaviour.......etc etc.

If the sole purpose is to “bring-in a bigger audience”, it’s rather shameful of ITV to allow this guy to do what he wants in a virtually unchecked manner.

Fair play to him. He’s been idolized beyond normality in many aspects. But he is essentially a news presenter sitting behind a newsdesk with the ITV News branding all around him (both on the screen and around the studio space). That’s what makes it somewhat questionable.

Let’s get the ratings in. Let’s please the advertisers. And let’s just turn a blind-eye to everything else. Lol.

Bring back Aled Jones!!!!!!!!! **

BBC Breakfast is the safe place for people who just want news, sport, business updates and a nice friendly but not confrontational face to ease them into the day which is why they attract the most viewers.

Some people have said that BBC Breakfast is boring, well this seems to be what a lot of viewers want at 6.00am in the morning. When I wake up at 7.00am each weekday, I don't really want a loud mouth ass bellowing down the camera to me whilst I am having my coffee and trying to wake up.

This is why BBC Breakfast continues to be the first choice for viewers, even with the ranting Piers over on ITV. Piers has his advantages, as he is a big fish in a small pond at GMB and ITV like it, as it brings in the ad revenue.

It seems a counterproductive move too to make Piers 'the show'. It means next time contract renewals come up it's basically a self-fulfilling prochecy and he basically has carte blanche to demand what he wants since he is apparently "the brand" and the show "needs him".

Only until the point the show decide they don't want him. Ask John McCririck about that.

As a gay man I find it difficult to see a man responsible for stirring up so much homophobia in the late 80s and early 90s now being given a platform to do the same against the trans community.

Aside from on here, every single 'discussion' online I've had with Piers fans or even watchers of GMB results in them calling Breakfast boring, that GMB consistently outrates Breakfast and that Piers 'speaks it like it is unlike those PC lefty snowflakes'.

I just don't get it. Jeremy Clarkson, for all his faults, could sway your opinion if you read any of his newspaper columns. I don't think that's ever happened to me when listening to a Piers rant.

It does feel at the moment that Piers Morgan is ramping up his outspokenness. There must be a temptation to keep doing this, as the more controversial he becomes, the bigger the reaction, and possibly the bigger GMB’s viewing figures. But the trouble is doing this increases the chances that at some point he could overstep the mark and suddenly find that ITV has to remove him as a presenter.

Personally I find it depressing that ITV sees the only way of getting viewers at breakfast time is to have a presenter constantly pandering to some of the worst of people’s values. It feels every day that they’ve dredged the depths of the Daily Mail comments section in order to whip up contrived controversy in order to wind people up and get them talking about the show. It seems like such a lazy, cynical and irresponsible way of attracting viewers. Surely there must be a better way of making a popular programme than stoking hatred and division every day.

He just seems to be turning into a rent a gob rather than being outspoken about issues he actually might have a valid opinion on.

Back to the show and everyone involved needs to remember his opinion should always be secondary and not setting the agenda, and keep it in check.

News presenters can be opinionated and challenge convention without being just rude and nasty - Newsnight and C4 News have been doing that for decades, but with purpose rather than just venting.

During Piers's latest tirade against Meghan and Harry, GMB was the second most watched show on ITV Hub behind the colossus that is Love Island.

What he does is no different to what US presenters do on a daily basis on MSNBC or Fox News. It's not everyone's taste, but it certainly gives GMB a USP in that time slot.

If ever Piers leaves or is forced out for one comment too far, the same issues that ITV have had with breakfast television since Daybreak will return as it's simply not good enough when the other presenters are allowed to switch into GMTV mode.

Oh. That's alright then.

You have a choice to watch the programme or not. Same for the controversial shock jocks on US radio or the gobs on a stick on speech radio here.

I don't agree with anything Moron says and his homophobic comments are repugnant, but he gets reaction which is what ITV want.

It's much easier to avoid The Piers Morgan Show than it is to watch him every morning with faux outrage.
