Really don't get Piers and others whinging like him exactly want from them. Perhaps it could have been handled better but this makes perfect sense for all involved - guess the reason the media are whinging is it makes it trickier to justify the "public interest".
Piers does seem to be moving though from outspoken host to outright p**** - though many will say he's always been the latter.

I've moved along the spectrum of 'hero' to 'horror' over the past few years. There have been times when I've thought of Piers as being a great asset to the show, e.g. being instrumental in getting the UK only interview with Donald Trump, however, he does seem to be getting worse and worse, and the days he's on the show, the whole thing (or the first half-hour after 6:30am at least) appears to be simply a showcase of "and I'll tell you another thing!" I am sure a lot of it is merely to make headlines, get views on online clips, and get people hashtagging about it on social media. I would rather it be more of a news/interview-focussed programme than this sort of tabloidy/sensationalist Piers-centric nonsense, though I imagine the response from many would be 'well, there's the BBC for that'. I just wish GMB would find the balance.
His Twitter bio doesn’t have any disclaimers to confirm that his comments are his personal opinions and not those of ITV, his employer.
Therefore, it could be surmised by many that his comments and tirades and opinions are made in his capacity as ITV News Presenter and not just as an ordinary member of the public.
Meghan and Harry will undoubtedly now be giving consideration in suing* ITV for Morgan’s slanderous rants!
* or giving an exclusive interview, whichever comes first.......

Libel, not slander of course.
He does seem obsessed by them, can't work out if it's his act or whether he's losing it
Piers is being unbearable at the moment. I think it links back to when he first spoke to Meghan via DM on Twitter/the meet didn't happen and has been somewhat sulky ever since. Bizarre.
Ian Hislop said about Piers Morgan that he has a very thin skin, just like Donald Trump. Any slight against him, and this all goes back to when Meghan stopped talking to him when she met Harry. He felt disowned by her, and dropped like a hot potato and of course this played right into his ego and so he felt belittled and is now on a vendetta against her.
Nothing Meghan does can ever be right for Piers anymore now - in fact Susanna actually said this last week on air during one of his usual pathetic rants against Meghan, only if she comes back to Piers and licks up to him again now she has the freedom to chose her friends will he stop moaning about them.
To keep this matter relevant to television as opposed to personal relationships (difficult to do so, given the subject in question......)
But back to tv and journalistic objectivity.
Simple question: what would happen if Charlie Stayt (by means of direct comparison) behaved in the same way as Piers does in his tweets and onscreen behavior? Would the BBC tolerate it and allow it to go unchecked? I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t.
In my eye, they’re both tv journalists and presenters who present breakfast television news in the UK. Why two different sets of rules?
To those of you who might say that “Piers is a bigger tv personality and not directly comparable with Charlie Stayt”, then fine.
But let’s then make the same comparison between Piers and Huw Edwards or even Jonathan Ross. The latter two would be carpeted if they spoke out (without prior disclaimer) in the same way that Morgan does.
In simple terms: why does ITV let him get away with it?

He brings in an audience, clearly not as much as Breakfast, but ones that bring in advertisers. Those who watch will watch his monologues/rants and participate.
Compare the Piers anchored GMB to the fluff that presents on Thurs and Fri, totally unwatchable.
It's not about "letting him get away with it" like a naughty schoolboy trying to outwit his teachers, if the management and production team weren't happy with him doing it, he wouldn't get the opportunity to do it.
They like to portray that he runs amok and doesn't follow their instructions and the entire programme is derailed by him, but it's not him who gets to decide which camera is selected, which microphone is live, or who gets a new contract to present the show.
