What a disgraceful show we have so far today with Piers and Susanna
The Birmingham stabbings are not even mentioned in the headline sequence. They seem to think its more newsworthy to talk about a woman who was told she could not ask for happy stylist, Paul Gascoigne getting burgled and having some steaks stolen from his freezer, stupid digs at BBC Breakfast and Dan Walker over ratings, fat shaming and a hippo eating a watermelon (sounds like a spoof but this is what GMB is actually prioritising). On the plus side the small mater of a certain virus did get a 5 min discussion
Charlotte did mention it for all of 30 seconds and then did a live for another 30 seconds but when it cut back to Piers instead of reacting to it he thought it was more important to say his mum had tweeted about a comment Dr Hillary said earlier in the show
After hearing them going on and on and on about fat shaming I muted the programme its pathetic like little kids
They are rightly in my opinion getting a lot of criticism on Twitter. The programme is usually a lot more journalistic with Piers and Susanna where as later in the week it focuses more on fluff stories
07:39 - The ticker goes breaking news orange now with white text and a breaking news ticker divider with orange text on a white background - I don't think this has happened before but I don't watch it all the time

I think they should always have the ticker in the headline colour. It feels so much more like breakfast tele

We actually have mentioned it today...
I always feel like I have to defend Daybreak somewhat, because for me the overall presentation - titles, music, colour scheme, studio and graphics etc - was such a breath of fresh air and looked so contemporary compared to both Breakfast at the time and GMTV. I loved the idea of a breakfast show daring to show that it was actually dark outside and getting lighter as the morning progressed (presumably this inspired the choice of programme title?). The misfire they made though was launching in September at 6am when it actually was pitch black outside, so then everyone complained about the reflections. Weirdly they did have those lit-up panels that were designed specifically for when it was completely dark outside, but on the first morning they didn't use them!
Unfortunately the content seemed to relapse pretty quickly into traditional GMTV fare. I remember I would hopefully put ITV on, and they would be interviewing Katie Price or a reality TV star or something, and I'd switch off. But it was all about targeting the 'hassled mums' audience I believe, and I'm obviously not one.
Gutted to see no one has marked a very special anniversary today- 10 years since the launch of Daybreak. đłđł
Hard to believe it limped on until 2014.

Today marks the 10th Anniversary of the launch of Daybreak and the separate Lorraine show after the demise of GMTV the previous Friday. I still think 10 years on that the 2010-12 music and graphics package is one of the better ones Lorraine has had. I do like the TVC set but not the music or graphics

This morning is the first time I've watched it for more than a few minutes and it is awful.
As you say, hardly any important news.
It is just a chat show. Very light content and blatantly trying to generate themselves Twitter reaction and tabloid headlines, such as them going on and on with all of the presenters calling Piers fat, even doctor Hillary saying 'at least I'm not overweight' to him.
Then they put up a photo of Dan Walker and we had some BBC bashing. Surely the public don't care about their petty in-house 'ratings war' đđ´
I switched to Sky News and CNN, for much more sensible news and interviews on Kay's programme, and proper global news on CNN.

That wouldn't explain glossing over the story completely, though. You don't need to make it a debate topic or spend half of the show interviewing everyone and their Grandad about it.
However, if you can devote air time to a clip of a watermelon suffering an explosive end in the mouth of a hippo, you can surely provide a rundown of the facts of what happened in the early hours of yesterday morning which - let's not forget - left one person dead and many others injured.
What exactly do you want them to say about the stabbing? Motive isnât clear, weâre told itâs not terrorism. So reaction is limited.

I'm happy that GMB has finally found its niche. Yes not every will like it but in 10 years we've been through 3 relaunches and then the axing of daybreak, the launch in 2014 of GMB, then 2015 when everything seemed to be going Back To The Sofa. I do prefer have guests in the studio tho just because of the lag but I know it's the only way at the moment
Yes, other than introducing Piers which changed the tone completely the show was given the chance to follow it's own path, rather than try to recreate GMTV after launching with a format and style which was intentionally very different and just send ITV backwards rather than forwards.

Well it wasnât in the 6:30 opener but it was third on the 6am TOH sequence, at 6:30 they did choose to drop the Birmingham stabbing for Gazza. Which isnât a great call I grant you considering Gazza wasnât on til after 8:30, people arenât going to wait two hours for that. But they did talk about that story immediately after the voiceover at 6:30. But itâs worth remembering that it isnât a headline sequence, itâs more a coming up sequence. That pre voiceover bit is never four news stories. The Gazza story is a bit celeb indulgent, particularly Piersâ âletâs get whoâs behind thisâ, as I said earlier, the average Joe also loses sentimental items in a burglary but they arenât former footballers...
The Birmingham incident was third in the running order after COVID/Brexit on the 6am news half hour; with a live link and package including piece to camera with Jonathan Swain from the city centre. However, I agree there should be proper news bulletins including said package each hour if that hasnât happened then itâs a problem with production. Give proper time to the news; 8 minutes an hour isnât all that much and tell Piers he canât ramble on.
However Iâm still not sure their was much for Piers and Susanna to say on the Birmingham incident. Itâs easy to react and talk about politics news and chat with Hilary about coronavirus etc. The initial reaction on here was that Piers and Susanna should have had a view or opinion and thatâs not really appropriate. That doesnât mean the amount of coverage was appropriate however, but thatâs not really down to Piers and Susanna per se.

To be fair the Birmingham incident coverage from when it broke yesterday all through the day had been moot compared to the over the top coverage it could have been given. Also the news of the arrest around 7.45 I think sort of puts a pause on the incident although I think that's more when someone is charged.

I totally agree. The purple logo and sofas with lots of white lot panels and hints of yellow was a lovely change. I feel what let it down was the fact that the background was purely the windows, which looked stunning on a sunny summer morning, but less so in the depths of winter. Compare this to This Morningâs London Studios sets which whilst on later could have dark mornings also in the winter, but with a set around the windows it was less of a focus.
When they changed the sofa pointlessly to red, made it larger and inserted a big yellow blind (why yellow!?) it was at the point of morphing back into GMTV, the change to a horrible yellow version of the logo when Kate & Dan took over was too far from the initial idea for the show. The content early on of news with lighter and often fun segments for the whole family was a lovely alternative in my opinion.
