A very interesting watch, not only because of the shows themselves, but on the very last episode they showed you a commentary of the queen arriving at the BBC for the recording and how the production assistant introduces the show to the audience. This included technical details of how the show is filmed, and how pre-filmed sequences were shown infront of the audience as well as the titles. They also introduced the main characters/actors to the audience, and they ran on, said something then took their positions.

I've never been to a recent studio recording. Have things changed that much? I certainly don't think the main actor would introduce the supporting lady characters and then kiss their hands like the ever so great Richard Briers did!

Things haven't changed that much actually. The Floor Manager (not the Production Assistant) usually does the Health and Safety spiel: where the fire exits are etc and then introduces a Warm-Up comedian. It's the job of the warm-up not only to get the audience going, but to keep them amused in the often frequent breaks in recordings, either due to a visit by Mr Cock Up, or because scenery needs changing. And it does often still happen that the main actors are introduced one by one. Victoria Wood often introduced her cast for Dinnerladies for example.
