Even by GMB's standards it's been structured terribly. The structure should have been.
- Piers opening ramble
- Football segment - David Ginola & Harry Redknap
- Corbyn and the Tory guy in a politics / Brexit segment
- Andi Peters at the Woolpack / Competition
- Danny Dyer - swearing segment
- Pamela Anderson - showbiz drivel / Comedian etc.
Instead it's a random bunch of people, talking mainly football in no particular order.
I think visually this is amazing. The GMB team never fail with the visual side of things and the new theme sounds great too.
The issue this evening is the amount of guests. If you watch GMB you might get 2 debates and a rushed entertainment segment within an hour but here they've tried to fit in about 8 guests who are all unconnected so the debates can't flow very well.
The last segment worked a bit better but still rushed. I think it would have worked better if they'd gone for the normal GMB segment and tried not to make it so entertainment and sport focussed. You can still cover the world cup without taking every interview back to that.
I think it's been an interesting pilot and I'd like to see them do something like this again but maybe not in the pressure of the slot after the world cup.
Content wise, the show is all over the place. Within 10 seconds, we go from football to Brexit to Love Island. There are far too many guests, it’s impossible for each guest get a decent amount of time to speak. The whole thing just comes off as a bit of a mess.
In all the different topics, they’ve lost the love/hate Piers and Susanna partnership which makes GMB successful.
