So C4's flagship autumn drama begins tonight as Goldplated hits our screens - described by most critics as a cross between Footballers Wives and Shameless.

I'll give it a go but I'm not 100% sure about it myself - I think it would fit neater into the Footballer's Wives slot than the C4 Drama slot.

Talking of Shameless, it returns in the New Year for a fourth series with some quite major changes as the McQuires take a more central role, moving in next door.

MAJOR SPOILER:
Also, Sheila is leaving by episode 3!

And finally, onto C4 as a whole and I really think they should have bought the first part of the third series of Desperate Housewives forward to boost their Autumn schedule, clearing part of the winter schedule to launch new US shows such as Ugly Betty.

I'll give Goldplated a go too, but it does sound crap and uninspiring. Ch4 really should be aiming higher then a 'Footballers Wives' knock-off. CH4 really have become much more lazy lately. Unanimous is the latest example, which is currently being trailed. A group of people have to decide amongst themselves who wins 1 million quid. Is this just not a more elaborate version of the excellent but un-nurtured 'Without Prejudice'? Rolling Eyes

Well - put it this way, I'm not watching the first look episode on E4 now!

It didn't have the humour or warmth of Shameless, and actually looked a bit like Footballer's Wives on a budget, but as a drama - rather than comedy drama - it wasn't too bad.

More like the sort of thing C4 were doing 10 years ago than recent dramas like Teachers, Shameless and No Angels etc.

Interesting to note that Goldplated is a co-production between World Productions and BBC America. Though no mention of BBC America on the end cap, which said "World for Channel 4".

Quote:
Goldplated (8 x 60) is produced by World Productions in association with BBC AMERICA. The executive producer is Simon Heath (World).

From Media Guardian...

Channel 4's heavily promoted new drama Goldplated made a disappointing start last night, attracting just 1.4 million viewers.
Goldplated, about the rich set in Cheshire, drew an 8% share of the audience between 10pm and 11pm, according to unofficial overnights.

The drama was up against BBC1's 10 O'Clock News, which attracted 4.7 million viewers and a 25% share; BBC2's Newsnight, with 900,000 and 6%; and the ITV1 10.30pm bulletin, which drew 3.3 million and 22%.
