Due to UKTV's "TV Firsts" theme/season, some top quality (true) classic programmes have/are appearing on UKTV Gold -

Steptoe and Son
The Likely Lads
Till Death Us Do Part
Rise & Fall of Reginald Perrin
Hancock's Half Hour

I got an e-mail from an exec at UKTV Gold and she stated that if these programmes are watched by many due the TV First season, then they will consider showing these programmes more permanently. In my opinion, programmes such as those noted above should ALWAYS be on UKTV Gold after all they are "gold" programmes and are classics. I feel it is time for UKTV Gold to ditch more modern programmes it shows such as Down To Earth, Casualty, The Bill, Holby City.

I would love some of these to return/be shown on UKTV Gold -

2point4 Children
Monty Python's Flying Circus
Citizen Smith
Hi-De-Hi!
Bread
Birds of a Feather
The Liver Birds
When The Boat Comes In
The Mayor of Casterbridge
Elizabeth R
Upstairs, Downstairs
House of Elliot
Dallas
Dynasty
Real Classic EastEnders, like when it started back in '85
Howard's Way
and much much more!

What would you like to see appear on UKTV Gold? And do you think it is a good idea seeing these programmes return? Do you think it will boost Gold's ratings?

tvguy: What a fantastic idea, an alternative kids show in the slots of other kids shows, with classics such as Knightmare and Bad Influence. I'd certainly take the time to watch that.

Anyways, yes I'm glad they are looking at showing older programmes. The problem is currently they show programmes that even BBC terrestrial repeat such as Only Fools and Horses and My Hero. They really should look at programming that hasn't been repeated AT ALL, or at least rarely. I'm sure there are some gems in the BBC and ITV archives just ready to be re-played!

Ab Fab is my favourite sitcom, I would like to see the ones from when it first started, also a lot more of One Foot In The Grave. They were the best sitcoms of the 90's. I do like some of the ones from the 70's and 80's, but they were way before my time !

True, but it doesn't mean 'Holby City' or 'My Hero' either does it? Who's going to want to see those in 5 years time, let alone 30 years time? Well, maybe some kids will have fond memories of My Hero, but when they reminisce about it in 20 years time, they'll realise how crap it really was.

Now, repeats of Look Around You series one and other decent programmes that will be fondly rememberd in 5 years time, maybe even 30, would be more like it. Not that I can get UK Gold anyway, but...

Because it was launched to show classic British TV programmes, not stuff that was on BBC1 3 months previously.

To be fair though, UK Gold has never got as bad as many people claim it has. Newer material may have become too prominent in the schedule, but the older stuff was always there if you knew where to look for it.
