Just thought I would spread the information from today's introduction. A planned international episode of the programme was planned but had to be scrapped for a normal episode of Briton vs Briton because "....two of our international contestants have called in sick" - that must be the first time that has happened on a live game show.

Going For Gold - what a catchy theme tune. But what is sung at the end of the closing sequence! I can't work it out!

I think this is what's sung at the end:

"Go for it - for gold!
Go for it - only the best survive
Go for it - for gold!
Go for it and you can take the prize
Go-ing for... Gold!"

The Five version has been a let down IMO, it's not John Suchet's fault, nor because it looks tacky (face it GfG has always been that way), it's just the fact they seem to repeat the phone in questions every five seconds ruins it for me, and it can't fill an hour, 40 minutes tops. The first round from the BBC version isn't even on this one...

If they want to see how it's done I think they should take a leaf from their French counterparts, it looks classy, it's fast and they even retain the same buzzer noises.

What a petty excuse!

I watched an episode last week and agree that the programme is terrible

The actual quiz with John Suchet is ok, it's the massive gaps where they read the easy competition question over and over again, then an ad break and then the question a few more times, I'm sure it's 10 minutes between rounds

I read on DS forums that the ratings have been very low, even for Five

The programme is abysmal if truth be told. Mind you reading the question six times in three minutes (and having it on-screen throughout) probably doesn't help. Brainteaser suffered from the same "problem" though, yet if truth be told it's probably the phone calls that are paying for the programme. The entire format is effectively Brainteaser in new packaging.

If you were to chop the entire ad-breaks out and the entire saga of some muppet phoning in to win whatever's on offer, I reckon the programme would only run 20 minutes as it stands.

Which is probably about right, given that the original BBC version of GFG lasted 25.

It is a poor rehash, and John Suchet - bumbling as he appears - is no match for the original bumbler, Henry Kelly.

Personally for me, Going For Gold is in need of a makeover. Here's what I would do: Arrow It doesn't really suit being on Five. I'd persuade ITV or the BBC to pick it up for it to maintain its seriousness. Arrow Get rid of the viewer competitions. Or if it really needs to have them, the presenter should say the question once and only once. Arrow It doesn't need two presenters. John Suchet makes an excellent quizmaster but would be better if he was persuaded to make a return to news to anchor ITN's News At Ten for it to make, hopefully, a dominative presence. Alex Kramer..... well, I would think she would be a casualty in my ruthlessness and she could make way for Henry Kelly, if he wanted to, to alternately present Going For Gold with John if John does not want to go back to news. Arrow Half the programme down to 30 minutes and maybe put it on 3 or 4 times a week on prime time.

Not the best quiz show on TV, and it isn't half as good as the initial version hosted by Henry Kelly.

And the set reminds me of the inside of a biscuit tin.

It has to be- there's a call in. And the audience is canned.
