found a clip on youtub e of gmtv in the former LNN studio at the LS. It looks fantastic! now the studio is not used it would be brillian if gmtv moved there, the perfect setting dont you think. Howveer im sure its been turned into a canteen as it looked remarkably similar to the canteen shown on gmtv this week

I'm sure the canteen is directly below the old LNN studio- thats what its always looked like from out side. never been in that part of the building so not sure. Someone on here will know..

As far as I know the studio is still there - the canteen is where it always has been, the reason it looks similar is that they're on the same corner of the building and both have had nice big windows put in - LNN's old one to make a good backdrop, and the canteen to give you a good view when you eat!

As for the darkness being a problem, it wouldnt be at all! After all london tonight broadcast their nightly editions as part of the late news/news a tten for nigh a decade and no one moaned then! i just think it is a real waste not to use it, and why gmtv havnt tried to get hold of it i dont know surely it must be worth more to the london studios to have a constant letting rather than the odd corperate event every couple of months. I think the shape of the studio could be turned into a real feature if it was used to its full potential.

I'm not sure broadcasting with a black background with a few lights in the background would work for GMTV

Erm, this is London we're talking about. The lights in the city don't go out at sundown, so it won't be a "black background"! London Tonight broadcast from there for more than a decade - often at night - without any problems. If all you see is lights reflected in the glass then you need a new lighting director! I seem to remember tally lights and autocue being reflected in the glass on London Tonight occasionally, but no more than that.

I seem to remember reading back in novermber time an article by someone from London Tonight saying that they call up St. Pauls and get the time they turn the lights on, changed so it can be seen in the background..

The part of the city the studio looks out on woud be full of lights early in the morning- it would make GMTV fresh and if the studio itself is good enough it wouldnt look 'cold' in the early winter mornings

I can't believe how much better GMTV looks in the former LNN studio. But I'm sure there must be a reason why they don't use it. However I think that the GMTV set needs changed completely. It has had the same layout for about 10 years now.

that set looks stupid at this time of year when it's pitch back outside your own home yet they have daylight coming through their 'windows' The BBC web cam windows on their news sets look better because it's a live view, same with the granada reports set for those who have seen it

There was another reason why GMTV said they didn't have a studio like that full-time.

ISTR that it was seen as too "London-Centric" when their usual one had what's basically a fake city in the background. Yes, I know that for a short while when the current studio came into use, they had a real view of London, albeit a view nobody particularly recognised, but that soon bit the dust.

I can see their point about it being too London Centric, but then couldn't the same be said for This Morning, which I'm sure many GMTV viewers watch? Also, many people I know seem to think GMTV's fake city is London, so it obviously doesn't make a difference at the end of the day.

One problem I could think of with them using LNN's set is space for live music performances. I'm not sure if the studio has the space for it, but I'm sure you lot will let me know. I think the weather green screen may also need extending for widescreen broadcasting, but I don't think that is a major problem.

Even longer if you consider that the second incarnation of GMTV's set was effectively a rip off of TV-AM's.

And the layout works fine as it is. If it aint broke why changed it?

the studio from pics i have seen is big just an odd shape. it appears to be rather long but all they would need to do is give the floor a nice bright colour change the colour of the walls add some props make it more homely and shove a sofa in, i think with a tweaked 'set' to the non window parts of the studio it would look fab. as for performance space that studio has been used countless times for such items, infact it used to be used for a regional london music show, clips on youtube i believe, that space worked fine.

Because it's boring, but that's just my opinion.
