I don't know if this is myth but I read somewhere that the BBC engineers actually completed the noughts and crosses game and Bubbles the clown won!

Not really sure that GMTV needs spicing up as such. Perhaps it could be a little clearer as to what its actual agenda is. Dont think they really use there presenters to their full potential. Penny Smith is fantastic, just what you need on tv in the morning, but we hardly see her after 7am when the majority are getting up. Kate Garraway should be used a little more (albeit she will be dissapearing on MT soon). As for Fiona, well, she is nice and a good presenter but she doesnt appear to connect with Andrew or Ben very well. I think what GMTV really needs is a more confident male presenter to partner with the lady's. Ben is ok but i see him as Entertainment Today styles not really a Today kinda guy. Andrew is better than Ben but still lacks something. I actually think Jon Stapleton would be good at Today.

Too serious?

It's a news programme for goodness sake. Do you expect him to come on each morning wearing a silly hat and having his own 4-note intro like when the main character comes on the stage in the theatre?

Blimey.

I'd stop FP saying "lovely to see you this morning" anymore than once to each guest, because after 32 "lovely to see you this mornings" it starts to appear that she doesn't really mean that it's "lovely to see you this morning" at all.

I wouldn't have everything that moves sponsored...
"You're watching GMTV Today on Wednesday the 7th of December, it's just coming up to 8 o'clock" STING 8 o'clock on GMTV is sponsored by Nestle After Eights

I wouldn't advertise a 'big star guest' (sponsored by Matalan, in association with Yellow Pages) for a week in advance only to have them on the sofa for just 3 minutes during which time FP uses half the time to tell them that it's "lovely to see you this morning" while they are still adjusting their eyes to the overtly garish colour scheme and are therefore incapable of saying anything of any sense anyway.

I'd get Claire Nasir to re-record the 'end of weather bulletin' "for a full five day forecast (sponsored by Topps Tiles) call blah, blah, blah... or you can visit our webside" so that she said website, that's SITE Claire.

Keith Chegwin and Tony Blackburn... one is very fast and loud, the other is quite slow and quiet... they both appear desperate to be liked and that makes me sad at breakfast time.

I should listen to the radio really!

Okay, it's a programme very loosely based on topical news items (i.e. looking at the newspaper headlines every ten minutes) Wink

I like:

Lorraine Kelly

I don't like:

Kate Garraway (too false and gushing)
Fiona Phillips (too cockney and rough)
Andrew Castle (hopeless dress sense and a mannequin)
Penny Smith (too false)
Ben Shepherd (dress sense is a bit weird, although he is borderline)
John Stapleton (been there too long)

What I would do:

News Hour Presenters: Felicity Barr and Owen Thomas (currently ITN)
Main Programme Presenters: Lorraine Kelly and Nick Owen (formerly of TV-AM fame)
Nine O'clock Live: I would change tact here entirely, and rather than have a light entertainment or features programme (currently it's LK Today), I would have a newsdesk presented edition of GMTV World News, presented again by Felicity Barr and Owen Thomas.

Stand-in presenters in their respective slots would be:

Newshour: John Stapleton
Main programme: Jane Moore and Kaye Adams
Nine O'clock World News: Kaye Adams and John Stapleton.

For those of you who don't know, Kaye Adams (current presenter of Loose Women) was one of STV's main news anchors in the 90's - she is more than capable of hosting heavy news, as well as lighter stuff.

In fact, she could slot in to any one of the GMTV slots listed above - Newshour, Main Programme, Nine O'clock segment.

What do you think??????

You beat me to it!

I can't stand GMTV - BBC Breakfast wins hands down in my opinion.

Perhaps if it WERE more news-oriented, and not so obsessed with the likes of 'I'm A Celebrity...' and the 'X-Factor', (just like the spate of daytime shows that follow) I would give it a chance.

Also, Ben Shepherd annoys the pants off me!

I can't understand why people automatically switch on the TV in the morning.

BBC Breakfast is so dull and somnolent, it's amazing that it even gets the audience that it does.

Dermot with his eyebrows that are slowly but surely circumnavigating their way around his eye sockets and that condescending voice of his.

Kaplinksky is often described as simpering. Couldn't agree more. I'm surprised that her neck hasn't been crushed into her shoulders with the sheer weight of all that muck she paints on her face each morning.
