GMTV have been playing around with their weekend news recently.

The last two editions of The Sunday Programme did not feature any news bulletins. I wonder if there's any reason for this?

I hope the revamp includes a shake-up of GMTV weekends.

News bulletins in the Sunday Programme have been stood down over summer until September. A decision taken some time ago.

Why were the bulletins `stood down` ?

It seems a strange decision, especially with the recent terror attacks and other world events.

Does GMTV have an obligation to provide some weekend news updates?

i havent excatly been reading too much of this, but is it actually a relauch (new studio, graphics ect [AGAIN!]) or is it just a change in presenters?

The Sunday programme is live, and can carry minor news updates. If the event was big - teams would be assembled and programming changed.

Medium relaunch. Same studio, tweaked graphics, same presenters TBC.

I presume because it does seem a bit odd when the Sunday Programme is off air to have a 10 minute GMTV News bulletin followed by 3 hours 15 mins of children's programmes, especially with the ITV Morning News immediately before it, it always struck me as a contractual obligation

Ahhh, but you could ask the same question why at 5.30am on a Sunday does ITV1 decide to schedules 20+ minutes of news?

That goes back to the original ITC agreement for Night Time. They had to make various programme quota provisions to convince the ITC to let them go through to 6am.

They actually class NightScreen as original commissioned programming believe it or not !

You miss my point, in the last two editions of the Sunday Programme before its break, the news bulletins were dropped.

Its not odd to have a news bulletin followed by Childrens Programmes. TV-am did it all those years back.

I wouldn't call it a relaunch. Its just the annual seasonal refresh
