Plus The News Hour has always been known as The News Hour, or The Retuers News Hour on GMTV or whatever it was, but I guess it's up to anyone whether they mention GMTV or not.

GMTV Today is a name that never sunk into alot of people, people still call it GMTV, but saying that, it was called GMTV until 2000. But TV-am also had the same problem, very few people called the main programme Good Morning Britain, often being called simply TV-am.

Seeing as ITV plc own 75% of GMTV these days (is that right?), and are apparently wanting to get the rest off Disney, I can see a day when GMTV will become a programme on ITV1 (like Joe Public already thinks it is), rather than technically being a "channel" in its own right, as it is at the moment.

When that happens, I bet the post-7am show will revert back to being called just "GMTV", and the newshour will become ITN/ITV-produced, and look like all other ITV News bulletins (theatre of news, and all).

I think ITV are reluctant to touch GMTV's 'formula' as they know it works and that if they did produce an 'ITV' version, many people would switch over to the Beeb.

I think it's unlikely that ITV will buy out all of GMTV in the near future, and even if they did I doubt we would see much change; GMTV would probably keep the 6-9.25 slot and would still have the three programming strands.

Has anyone else noticed that some adverts shown during GMTV have the top and bottom cut off?

This is on a Phillips widescreen TV watching through SKY (Meridian South). I don't think its the TV because its only during GMTV and only during *some* adverts. I think its only been happening for the last few days, probably since the new look. Do GMTV play out their own ads or do ITV do it?

Also, do other regions have the problem where the sound cuts out for about a second when they switch to the regional news? The presenter will say "Hello, here is the news from....." but the word 'Hello' will be mute.

yeah, the same problem here in Wales, sometimes the gmtv generic appears and stays for a minute or two playing the gmtv 1993 theme music.

It doesn't seem to be worth spendiing cash on buying out Disney, but a share-swap may be a goer, especially if the parties in the various TransAtlantic alliencies do swap-over again. NBC strike me as as far too high-brow for ITV. ITV/ABC wold appear to be cosy.

As for the show, yes they'd be mad to touch it, but some integration between the News Hour and ITV Morning News may be in order, as could more cross promotion between ITV News Channel and GMTV, and more use of each others' material.

I was worried that if ITV and GMTV merged more, we would loose those great GMTV newshour titles etc. but that has already been done!

IF ITV took complete control of GMTV what would they do with the news team?
Keep them on, take the ITV News service inhouse, or come to a deal so they are absorbed with ITN.

I think they should move all news to the south bank and ditch ITN. ITV would save money on renting ITN studio space, plus save money as they will pobably use GMTV reporters etc. I really have no idea on these things, but would the current GMTV newsroom be able to cope producing bulletings throughout the day, obviously I mean size and layout not staff, as most of ITV staff will come from ITN. I hope ITV does not move GMTV to ITN. I was looking at the ITV London studio, it is a really nice set but nothing compared to the feeling of the old London Tonight studios with the real windows.

If ITV did take full control of GMTV, then GMTV News would simply aborb into ITV News really, they'd probably keep a presenter at the South Bank but do the rest at Grays Inn Road would be the most likely outcome.

If ITV also did take over then they would start into integrate more things, Charles Allen himself admitted they would bring the CiTV brand into GMTV if they got full control, and they do share some programmes, such as Rugrats and Spongebob Squarepants AFAIK.

GMTV would fully disappear if ITV had full control of all of the franchises, GMTV and ITN, then it would simply become a programme without a need for a 6.00am or 9.25am handover each day.

I dont know why we can't have completely new Today titles if we've got completely new News Hour titles.Even if it was an edited version of the News Hour titles!

The thing with the old News Hour titles is the animation before the logo wasn't that exciting but the logo and music were!
And the old NH music was there since 1998 [did it launch in 98?].

I wonder if GMTV will do anything to mark ITV50. It'd be nice if they looked back over the past 22 years of breakfast tv on channel 3, although I wonder how former TV-AM stars would feel about going on GMTV.
Mike Morris may still be "gutted"

Well Mike Morris has worked for GMTV, so he can't have been that gutted.
