REALLY Interesting point, no rear projection screen! So what will happen to the weather? Will it do a GMTV News and just use a CSO backing. I never understood why they didn't just put the weather graphics onto the screen, instead of making it green. And why did the weather and news never share the screen, would it have taken much to move Andrea or Claire out and put the desk and Penny in?

I understood the weather to be purely CSO (as is the news background) and not rear projected. Isn't the rear projector referred to the one they used for movie clips and music videos in Lorraine's show?

I think you are right, the weather was far too crisp and clean to be a projector. Behind the news desk CSO was the projector you mention.

Ben - correct - weather is CSO, News was against Projector.

The GMTV trailer on ITV1 just now said that the Olympic medalwinners will be "on the sofa" tomorrow - so much for abolishing the sofa!

Yes, but the projector was simply showing CSO green and the news background was keyed onto that, right? Surely that news background graphic wasn't rear projected?

Yes, projector CSO for news.

It looks like Regional News Times are changing too, they just announced the next Granada News at 07:25 Tomorrow.

Can anybody shed any light on that.?.

Sorry, that's my confusion. I knew that one of them uses the rear projection and turns it green, this would be for the news. So then, why couldn't they just display the news background on the screen?

Yeah, I remember now. They have a board that slots in, and they stick a LK Today board there when doing soaps, movies and stuff.

Probably because the GMTV logo would look all over the place and the quality would be much poorer. I remember before 2000, they did use the screen behind then switched to CSO, as the quality improved much.

Rear projection can be difficult to get looking as saturated and contrasty as other methods (just look at BBC News 24's washed out screens!). As long as you can achieve a reasonably uniform green, it's far easier to key a background in.
