Who remembers the sun "splashing on water" ident in 1997? That, I have to say was better than the market-stall ident - although this look is a lot better. Smile

Everything remained pretty much the same for many years until 2000 came, then they seemed to bring out new idents every few months, as well as variations in some of the idents.

I've quickly put together a sort of montage of just some of the past idents (not the current), captured by me long before I joined the forum. It includes a quick flash of the special 2000 titles and some Christmas ones.

The best in my eyes are the Christmas wireframe glittery one, and the current (but I don't like the comma seperating the days as they rotate, and the presenter images on the rotating "coins" look squashed).

I wonder if they'll ever settle down to a proper ident for GMTV Today, or whether they'll just keep changing to keep it fresh.

Put The Telly On
Thats a rather nice montage there

To clear this up. It's a STATIC image printed on a wooden flat, FRONT-LIT.

Why did they choose such an unappealing image?

According to teletext, they've softened the set by introducing cushions and plants and are considering changing the backdrop.

Which shows even fairly minor changes get the GMTV viewers to comment/complain. Now you know why they never do anything completely radical like people on here often suggest.

Anyway, things didn't go according to plan at the start of GMTV Today this morning, the titles wouldn't run, so Kate just carried on straight from the pre-titles chatter to the post-titles chatter. They must think running titles really is important to start the programme properly as they eventually did run the titles about 2 minutes later at 7am.

At the end of GMTV Today Kate thanked everyone for watching over the summer, remember she's presented practically every GMTV Today five days a week since June, I often think they should have special GMTV Today summer titles without Eammon and Fiona on, and with Kate, Andrew and Ben on them, as its really their own show over the summer. She said the inevitable 'Eammon and Fiona are back on Monday', this means its now officially the first day of winter!! (As said by Fiona 06:58am 01.09.03, a record even for Fiona, will she match it in the idiotic stakes this year?)

Eammon's back after his customary 12 weeks off, Fiona who previously only used to disappear at the start of the school holidays with Lorraine only did one week with Andrew this year so has been off for a massive 11 weeks!. Penny only seems to take off a more normal 2 or 3 weeks.

Oh good, so I'm not the only one that finds Fiona endearing as well. I love the inane remarks, it just makes her more human for me, and I like that.

I take it they never replaced the webcam when they were putting in the new set, with the webcam still showing last weeks static shot.

I taped a bit of The Sunday Programme this morning to see if it had changed.

The Religious/Moral/Ethical section of the programme which is recorded had the new backdrop just like GMTV Today last week, but the Political section which is live had a different view out of the windows, a much more blurred vague shot of a skyline, it looks remarkably like the old one!

Oh no, they are going backward, again! Why do people moan about the set? I cant see anything wrong with it before. The backdrop can change yes, but why go back to what its was similar before?! I didnt see it, but I could imaging it!
