Also i didn't see anything moving outside it looked to me like it was a static image. Will it change with the weather?

I'd prefer the flats to that bloody awful fake one they had before. BTW, what'll happen in the winter, when the morning starts getting dark? Will they have to use a loop?

There's absolutely no way that's a live image! Surely they are static images printed onto some sort of transparency and then backlit?!

When I saw it first, it looked real, but the only thing I noticed was with a guest, and that large tree, was absolotule still. I still cant believe it isnt real!

I forgot, if it is Backlit, is there a chance they could do special effects, so when it is dark the lighting changes behind, with lights appearing in the windows, sort of the old ITV News background, when some screens flashed on and off? And will gradually get lighter throughout the morning. !

I noticed that too. I have no doubt that is just a static image. Whether it was chromakey or a rear-projected background or not, that image definitely wasn't moving.

The set looks good I think, finally shaken off the old TV-am (RIP) image. But that "view" Shocked the ugly backside of some grim London flats? Surely that can't stay for long?

Did someone say it's not a real window and the view would be on a video loop? If so I hope they do better than the dreadful Midlands Today montage where the trees are in leaf all year...

Well now I think it looks loads better that way round. It all seems to make more sense.

To clear this up. It's a STATIC image printed on a wooden flat, FRONT-LIT.

what a load of toss. Seeing as though we're likely to see this set for a few years yet, why couldn't they of splashed out on rear projection or chromakey, or something along those lines to make the background a LITTLE more interesting?

That argument doesn't make any sense at all. It would be complicated for them to use a multi-camera set up with CSO, unless they go down the VR route of ITV news. That costs a lot of money. Projectors require a throw distance (although mirrors can be used to help), and the studio isn't particularly large.

Why go for a complicated and expensive solution when a front lit printed image looks crisp and clear?

They can always change the printed image from time to time.

Honestly, its easy to see that the projection and VR hungry forumees have never had to sign a large purchase order!

Thank you, Gavin! Couldn't agree more. The CSO option on a set like GMTV would have to be VR to enable multi-camera shooting. In fact, I suspect it would end up being the exact same principle that ITV News use - part VR, part reality. Surely a completely unnecessary (and enormous) expense?

Having looked at the shots off air, I did notice one nice touch which adds to the realistic effect of those views. The flat with the printed image on appears to be set back from the 'window panes'. This allows for parallax between the 'window' and the background on different shots, eg: the news handover shot. It stops the image looking too flat when viewed from multiple angles.

Im Particulary impressed with the GMTV Today titles. They are much brighter and fresher than before. The background now has a nice shade of blue, with stronger water and cloud features, with the swishes more white. The background of the presenters in Yellow and Red really makes it look really good. And to make it even better, the Day Names are now clear glass, reflecting the flying circles, to great detail. Im sorry, but to me GMTV have the best Idents on TV ever. Thats my pesonal opinion, and the new Generic Ident looks soo cool. I also like the Newshour titles too, and looks much better with the glassier window frames with John and Penny in them! Thats just my view on the titles!

Actually, I agree with you; the idents are MUCH better than before. Who remembers the sun "splashing on water" ident in 1997? That, I have to say was better than the market-stall ident - although this look is a lot better. Smile
