Well if it's so crap how come it gets six million viewers a day then - making it officially Europe's biggest breakfast show?? And the main presenters who leave don't get "sidelined" - they CHOOSE to downscale their hours and spend more time with their families, so go to far less demanding regional jobs. GMTV presenters/reporters don't just work three or four hours a day while the show is on air - many put in 18 to 20 hour days on a regular basis, working on stuff for future programmes. So there!!!!!

Personally I prefer hardline news rather than celebrity gossip, but I accept that many people enjoy GMTV, I too sometimes watch bits. I believe there needs to be alternatives, if you don't like showbiz news etc. tune into Breakfast ( although it does have a bit ) and if you like it, tune into GMTV. To be honest we are quite lucky, some countries main channels don't bother with a Breakfast News programme, and ones that do, only one channel has one ( ie. Ireland, they only have Ireland AM on TV3 and therefore no other choice).

But having said that, we need to define hard news from light news. In the case of GMTV, the Newshour needs its own set, preferably with a desk. Then a sofa for the main Today programme.

The old London Tonight set is much bigger, and would allow a seperate set for the Newshour wouldnt it, but they wouldnt give the newshour its own set would they.

For us paying the TV Licence to RTE, all we get it Matinee Films and nature programes!! TV3's Ireland AM is a great programe and they are payed by advertisers!

They could always extend Penny's news desk to fit her and John, and then use the BA HQ backdrop... nah.

As for tv-am ruling for kids and adults alike, I wouldn't know much about TV-am, being born in 1990. However this kind of programme was suited to those times, the studio wasn't too dated, but the themes were VERY 80's, and the only alternative was 'Breakfast News' towards the end of its run, so you can probably see which one families would turn to. TV-am was good in its day, but if you said TV-am to somebody on the streets now, not only might you be diagnosed with Tourette's, but, in the North at least, you would probably be greeted with 'Ah dinnah like' or even, 'Fook off mate, ah divvnt have a fookin clue wot yeer on aboot man!' That's what happened to me, anyway... Laughing

The sad thing is when you mention TV-am most people tend to forget it, the only thing they may associate with it is the rat and Timmy Mallett. I was only born in 1987 but I remember TV-am very well, I know that there is very little difference between Good Morning Britain and GMTV Today, but I far preferred GMB, there was a nicer feel to it, GMTV just copied the format when it came on air, though people liked it, I believe it has had it's day now, as it not that much different, same stuff and even the same presenters. Plus TV-am had more original kids programming, stuff that they comissioned or made, rather than GMTV which tends to bring in stuff from Disney, though it can be stuff that kid's like, for educational value it is nothing, but I am going off topic here.

Though at the time it was worth watching, nowadays I don't feel like I should be up early as there is nothing good on, remember the day's when the only choice was either Breakfast News, Ceefax, Good Morning Britian and The Channel Four Daily! (Even the C4D I liked)

But IMO GMTV needs sorting out, maybe a refresh would be good as apparently more people are turning off, not much mind, but still it can be worrying for them, the only thing I would watch GMTV for is the Granada News in the morning.

I don't know why but I tend to find GMTV very predictable in many ways, it is like Daily Mail but in TV form, guaranteed when September comes you can bet that there's a whole week of discussion of bullying, though that is a serious issue it is the same every year.

Though I agree that alot of thought and preperation goes into each's morning's programme, I still cannot abide it, and I still don't see any reason why we need GMTV on ITV2!

The worst thing GMTV done this year, was dropping the newer shiny red and white logo, and going back to the gm.tv box style logo. I really liked just GMTV without the yellow background, much more modern and "cooler"!

I entirely agree with you, that is the only reason why I put GMTV on, then I watch Breakfast which is much better and gives propper News.
