I'm sure some of you are awake in the mornings (Unless you've been doing your GCSE's or other exams in that case you deserve a lie-in) to notice that GMTV is quite a good show. I watched it from start to finish the other morning, and was very impressed with it - EXCEPT for (DUMMM-DUMMM-DUUUHHHH....) GMTV News, well, thats an overstatement really - it's not news, it's just a chance for Sky News hasbeen Penny Smith to flutter her eyelashes, and let those crazy eyebrows of hers move around her forehead like two catarpillars on speed.
The backdrop for GMTV News is hideous, and the stories, sometimes serious, are delivered by Ms Smith with her usual arrogant grin. No wonder she was sacked from Sky.
Other good points about GMTV, and it has to be Fiona Philipps - she is ALWAYS rubbing the inside of her groin, and other 'intimate' places - I can hardly draw myself away from the screen to go to catch the bus!
GMTV, hmm. Strange really.
The thing about GMTV is it is a very good show but it gets the format so wrong.
If they talked about NEWS on the programme instead of just 'Topical Features' then the show would be the best news programme on TV.
They get many exclusive interviews, most noticeably with the PM.
GMTV News is of course provided by ITN.
Penny wasn't sacked by Sky News she left for GMTV, and I actually quite liked her at Sky News.
Here's an idea.
Make the Newshour into a GMTV Business Morning.
Make GMTV Today into GMTV NewsHour.
Make LK Today into GMTV Today.
Makes more sense.
TV-AM was unlucky to lose it's franchise but looking back, i'm not sure I would want to go back to the days of Anne Diamond and Nick Owen, oh no...
Yes I agree with much of that, GMTV is good, but could be so much better. They should lose most of the lightweight lifestyle features (like Lorraine Kelly), nobody wants these at breakfast anyway, and This Morning is coming on later and does all that kind of stuff much better. I'd still have your guests on such as politicians, celebrities etc. but we don't need makeovers and Doctor Hilary. More topical, current affairs mixed with entertainment stories, keep the banter etc. My one lasting memory of GMTV is when Fiona Phillips interviewed John '2 Jags' Prescott, Fiona is actually a very good interviewer, she pretends to be your friend and then jumps in for the kill. Anyway, she really annoyed Prescott, I think about the 2 jags thing, and he got really annoyed, ahe sked her if she had anymore 'silly questions' and nearly stormed out, it was very funny. Fiona just wouldn't give in.
Of course GMTV News has been very good with various momentous events.
Take the Dunblane Tragedy and the Paddington Crash as an example.
The thing that confused me about Paddington was that Sky, BBC and GMTV all won the same award for it!
GMTV were lucky though as their HQ is nearer to Paddington than the BBC and Sky.
GMTV, really is a dull show though isn't it, this probably won't go down to well with you, being the news type people but the Big Breakfast in my view has always been good, but in the last month has improved drastically.

SkyNews
Exlusive interview with Tone (EVERY KEY MEDIA OUTLET GOT ONE) -even me.
GMTV's coverage of Diana crash was widely criticised. Phillips was considered awful.
They provide a role in the morning, not simply copying BBC Breakfast with the focus there being news, & above the Big Breakfast.
From what I recall GMTV's coverage of the Paddington crash was not bad, but you have to remember they are not a station used to dealing with such events as this, and in 1997 were still under the Reuters contract, now they are with ITN.
The Paddington Crash coverage was very good.
Either way nothing could be as bad as TV-AM's coverage of the Brighton Bombing... i.e. they forgot to mention that someone had tried to wipe out the entire government, how it was not picked up by TVAM is a total mystery.
