It's more weird because Granada didn't have any interest in GMTV at the time. The only thing I can think of is that (as that episode dates from March 1993 and presumably recorded several months earlier) it was their way of showing how up to date the series was by featuring it.
I do wonder why that was crow-barred in. It just seems weird.
It'll be there to represent the time of day, not as product placement. Using a radio breakfast show (usually with a timecheck) is anot her way that this can be done.

I like the fact its the top of the hour feed ( the woman says its 8.15) with fiona who had already left by the time it was broadcast.
As an aside, isn't it amazing how so many ITV sitcoms ran for years and years... and yet only fondly remembered by about three people?
Used to love Watching as a kid even though at 10 years old I probably didn't understand what it really was about.
I guess the topic of ITV sitcoms is for another thread but its really only from the mid-90s they became something of a rarity, with it being no coincidence that the soaps were upping the number of episodes in that period.

There's a lot of sitcoms (on the BBC as well) that were seemingly modestly popular at the time and were on for years but as soon as they finished everyone forgot about them. A more recent example being My Family (lasted ten years!)

I was a little younger but this resonates with me a lot! I remember watching... er Watching regularly as a little un but couldn't tell you what it was about.
Anyway back on topic, still can't believe how I didn't notice that GMTV ident was a model until recently.
I think with hindsight it became clear that Eamonn's beef was with GMTV management, and he took it out on Anthea, for which he has apologised. Anthea herself has apologised for being a bit of a brat, and they are friends now.
