I think the BBC automotons can happily rule themselves out. It would be a real person on the sofa, not a posh jolly-hocky-stick W.I candidate.
No auto-cuties or fake camaraderie BBC Brek nonsense - so Sian and Kate should aim for 'The Sky at night' and 'Countryfile' respectively.

Who said it would be a woman anyway?

Though given that Breakfast has been pretty constantly beating GMTV in the ratings for quite a while now (usually 5 or 6 share points in front) maybe GMTV will decide "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em"

Wonder if the relatively underwhelming GMTV ratings is tied in to the presenting shake-up...

Nope, has a lot to do with children and a sick father I understand.

I think they need to bring a new female presenter into the team, initially to cover Fridays or if Penny moved, a big personality to read the news/newshour

I imagine anyone from BBC or ITV Regional News, Sky News or the BBC News Channel would be a good bet. I can picture various people from those programmes fitting the GMTV job

Although, it's fair to say the ratings battle is on again, and Breakfast do manage a healthy share on two presenters through the morning as opposed to a raft of them.

Although if they did get someone else in outside GMTV i'd go for someone like Katie Derham or Becky Jago, if your looking for something different.

No, no, no, no. Thank God you are not on the GMTV recruitment team!

Katie Derham has too much journalistic integrity for the sofa, Becky Jago has way too little.

I throw two names in the ring, to get a little discussion going;
- Nicky Campbell
- Richard Madeley
BR
Brekkie
... or Lorraine Kelly.

Let's just hope Fiona Phillips goes the same way as Anthea Turner.

Hmm...i'm intrigued by your other comment, about doing well with only 2 presenters....will the newshour get the axe? GMTV Today, from 6 till 8.30?

You need to have a journalistic background and be a women. (I doubt they would have 2 men presenting together)

I like the sound of Nicky Campbell, him and Kate would make a nice pairing I think..

The Daily Mail are busy speculating in this article that it's between two Kates.

They say that Kate Silverton is out of contract at the BBC and that an "initial conversation" has taken place but that if Kate Garraway doesn't get the role she is likely to leave herself.

The beauty about Fiona was her fallibility, and her ability to show her human side. Kate Silverton isn't particularly likeable or warm.

Kaplinsky even get's a token mention, but can't see them affording her. The other names mentioned are Melanie Sykes, Christine Bleakley and Susanna Reid etc. (Have they just been reading this thread ?)
