UTV and GMTV had their falling out in 1994, only a year after GMTV launched. Not sure when Macmillan took over broadcasting, IIRC it was Reuters at first who provided the NI opt.

Oh, right. 1994? Shocked

What did they "fall-out" over?

Seeings as the national "Newshour" was originally Reuters-connected, I suppose it makes sense that they were the initial choice of post-UTV news provider for NI.

Were the pre-Macmillan era NI bulletins also simply "GMTV Northern Ireland" branded? Or even just "GMTV"? Or did they mention "Reuters", or whatever, branding?

UTV decided to broadcast a special programme in the GMTV slot on the ceasefire that was taking place and opted out at times they shouldn't have. They didn't ask GMTV and as GMTV held the license to broadcast during that period, GMTV weren't best pleased so took opportunity to hand all news opts in NI to ITN who took over - I don't think Reuters were ever involved.

Ironically ITN and UTV were based in the same building until ITN moved to Fanum House.

UTV handled the opting in and out and handing control over at 6am to 9.25am, but it's remotely controlled by Macmillan / ITN when they opt in and out with the circuit routers in Havelock House. However something makes me think this is now automated by GMTV.

Macmillan took over a couple of years ago - I think the beginning of 2005 but not fully certain on dates.

It's always been referred to as the GMTV News from Belfast or GMTV Belfast.

IIRC, UTV opted out due to major breaking news in Northern Ireland. As GMTV is in reality a separate franchise and UTV only own the airtime from 9.25 its the equivalent of Tyne Tees opting into LWT, or even opting into BBC2. GMTV went mad and haven't spoken to them since.

Cock-up on the local news here in the Thames Valley region this morning at 6.35am. The bulletin failed to start, so we were treated to about 30 seconds of the GMTV caption and that music, before abruptly going into the bulletin which was already in progress. At the end of the bulletin, a wide shot of the studio lasted about a minute before briefly cutting to the Brighton camera. It then returned to Penny in the studio before another brief flash of Brighton before normal service resumed.

Here in Granadaland the 0635 bulletin started on time... it switched briefly to the GMTV logo and '93 music, then bulletin carried on..

After the weather, there was a long goodbye... then on the wide shot for a while, then back to the GMTV Logo and '93 music for around 20 seconds...

Apologies if this has been mentioned before, but I noticed today when I switched onto GMTV that the regional opt-out studio is branded " Grampian " in my area rather than any form of STV

A wee while ago, GMTV stopped using STV/SMG as its supplier of news bulletins for Central Scotland and Northern Scotland.

Instead, they now get them from Macmillan Media, who presumably have decided that "Grampian" is a better choice of suffix than, say "Northern Scotland". And why not, indeed? Smile

In Northern Ireland, GMTV ditched UTV in favour of Macmillan rather longer ago. (When?)

And it now seems that there's a possiblity of GMTV ditching ITVplc, in favour or another regional news supplier (Macmillan again?), across the rest of the UK fairly soon.

All the Macmillan bulletins only use "GMTV [regional suffix]" branding, not any "Macmillan" branding, unlike most/all of the ITVplc-produced ones.

Although I was much happier with " Grampian " for the name of my ITV provider than " STV " or " STV North ", calling their local news Northern or North East Scotland would be far more geographically accurate. Wink

All these cock - ups with the local news on GMTV are happening more and more frquently it's just unbelievable

Is the fault of these problems with GMTV or ITV 1 ?

If they can't get it right they should just hand the local news to another company or broadcaster to produce

Maybe ITVplc are "accidentally on purpose" putting gremlins in the works, due to the prospect of their services being ditched by GMTV?

I really can believe that ITVplc would be that childish and spiteful.

Where is the source that says GMTV will be relaunching in September 2008?

Another blink and you miss it screen this morning. Just before 09:25, the ' TLS Studio 5' came on, but went back off when it changed to the ITV Network.
