The only thing they need to get rid of is the "today" title from everything. I don't know why they even call it GMTV Today and LK Today.

There is a GMTV 2, but the main GMTV is GMTV and never will be called GMTV 1

I think they prefer to refer to GMTV 2 as GMTV Digital thesedays.

Theres also a GMTV2+1, GMTV3, GMTV4 and GMTV Kids.

GMTV2, GMTV2+1 and GMTV3 have allowed ITV to take over the stream meaning ITV2, ITV2+1 and ITV3 are all 24 hour channels. GMTV4 and GMTV Kids simulcast, although GMTV Kids refers to GMTV4 and the old GMTV2. GMTV simply refers to GMTV1; there is no need to say GMTV1.

I really don't think it is wise to encourage that kind of crap on the forum.

Though you are technically right that GMTV could once have occupied the ITV digital channels on digital terrestrial between 6 and 9.25 if they had wanted.

Nobody knows if it is going to actually relaunch or not.

The set up they have had for years (sofa in front of a backdrop of london) is iconic to GMTV and should never be changed, but there are a million and one ways they could have the same effect whilst giving it an overhaul. Take Lorraine's set for example. One way would be to have window panels looking out over London rather than a full on view divided up by the windows. I think instead of a screen with an image on they need to either put a real screen behind there or a CGI screen like the ones used on ITV Local News. This would enable them to have a live view so it would be more realistic and would give a nice division of GMTV Newshour and GMTV Today when it isn't getting light at 4am. The theme tune and the (GM) TV logo should never change but they need to overhaul the graphics and start from scratch- whilst keeping the same logo. Currently they have about 2 or 3 different packages which they use which is very unprofessional and inconsistent.

Just as much as Liverpool Docks were iconic to This Morning!!!!

I agree with most on here that a changed is now desperately needed. If anything people's appetit for "sophisticated"news is growing, rather than having tabloid journalism.

Newshour , I believe should be behind desks or even use the ITV News studio, but with a different backdrop on the newswall, instead of the qasi-real ITN/ITV offices. This move would also separate Newshour from GMTV Today in that it would be set in a completely different studio and make it more autonomous and authoritarian from the rest of GMTV.

Again, with a few other posters what is the significance of using today in nearly all othe the GMTV programmes? With regards to GMTV Today is there any chance that they could ever re-use Good Morning Britain, from the old TVam days. Nolstagia and very contemporary at the same time, with a redfined studio set.

Also, a change in the weekend schedules is needed for instance (I know another fantasy schedule - sorry!!!)

Saturday:
0600 Weekend Newshour
0700 Toonattik (to 0925)

Sunday:
0600 Weekend Newshour
0700 Pre-school Programmes
0800 The Disney Club (to continue after the close of GMTV - as it did when GMTV first started)

Ah, but they tried to replicate that in London, and still to this day have the exact same set up Wink

I think they could do what The Afternoon Show did on RTE1 with their set, its a really good design and would be a change.

Also when I’m talking about Irish Daytime TV, The O'Seoige and O'Shay theme tune is near identical to Something For The Weekend, they even have a feature called ''Something For The Weekend''. Pure Laziness

I think many of us want to see GMTV take a leaf out of NBC's Today Show, in terms of the set and on-air identity. I had said in the past that GMTV should go for a new, different layout in their studio, instead of keeping to the current layout which they have for the last few years.

I now think though, that the set should keep the same layout. While looking at some images for the Today set, I realised they've kept the exact same layout. However, it looks very, very different now.

GMTV tried to make the current set modern, and they did pull it off at first with the backdrop. They then changed it, back to the washed out city skyline. I think a view of the Thames is needed, on ground level, so that people could be walking past. This could be easily achieved with CSO.

Now, just a few years after the rebrand, the set looks very dated and old. They don't use the LED lights anymore, which they did use when the new set first launched, IIRC they used them at the TOTH.

In terms of what the new set should be like, I think keeping the same layout but making a drastic change would be great. The titles should be short and snappy, as currently, but with a lot more white used. I think an orchestral theme could be easily recorded, keeping GMTV's signature tune.

This images shows how the Today set has kept the same layout, but was changed a lot. Just to mention, the backdrop onto the street can be obscured by that blue wall, which can move up and down.

This is the basic shape and layout of the set:

I agree with people at the (GM)TV Logo and theme should not be changed, and neither should the set.

They just need to update a bit. Firstly, get rid of that horrid backdrop!! Why cant they use the one they had around the performance area with St. Pauls and the Gherkin?? SOMETHING THAT SHOWS LONDON! not some crummy council estate. Maybe update the logo a bit, but keep the (GM)TV idea. DEFFO UPDATE THE SITE! its very messy and squashed together. Drop the "TODAY" as it is used in almost everything on GMTV. They really need to get a consistent graphics package.
