They have said there's going to be a relaunch on the cards. It's been widely publicised. They've also said they're bringing back competitions in September and are going to have more news/current affairs based content. If you want an idea on what they'll be going for you can bet it'll be loosely based on NBC Today (several people on this thread have in the past suggested that that's exactly what they should do - we're clearly better than GMTV execs!) And on the subject of local news - trust me - ITV will lose its contract within a matter of months. Most people within ITV pretty much know that this has been on the cards for a while now.
As for the ITV regions losing their contracts, i myself am rather surprised. With ITV PLC being a major shareholder in GMTV surely they would want to have another ITV company providing the news, as it is more money being pushed into ITV PLC.

I don't know how it works, but I guess that GMTV put the contract out to tender, and whoever can effectively deliver the service for the lowest price wins the contract.
That wouldn't necessarily be ITV plc who have to fire up and staff their studios in each region and probably don't want to have to do it anyway, (given the current attitudes to regional news). For all we know, they may have already expressed a desire not to continue with the service. Macmillan Media already provide the contract for Ireland and Scotland, so I guess are proven in the field, and can do it on the cheap, ie. in front of a green screen.

GMTV has its own board of directors so the ITV board has no say in contractual agreements like that. Its something compromised between the GMTV board and whoever they are looking at contracts with.
GMTV is 75% owned by ITV, but it is not run by ITV.
Will GMTV be considering using the BBC to provide regional news? The BBC already provides the news for S4C, so I can't see any reason why they couldn't do it for GMTV.
No doubt if the BBC did do it, they would wish to brand it similar to the rest of their BBC news operations, something GMTV probably wouldnt want! As for them doing it for S4C that is slightly different, as S4C has an obligation to show programmes in welsh made by the BBC and HTV.
Grrr It does annoy me when there's no LK and GMTV Today continues to 9.25, that they have an extra 8.30 bulletin. They should have it all the time, not just when Lorraine's not there, no consistency

GMTV Today should just end at 8.30am in the first place. I don't see the point (or logic) in having GMTV Today end at 8.38am. Its a bit random ...
