I noticed Bob Johnson provided a breif weather forecast during the Tyne Tees news opt-out. Did any other regions do something similar, as it's normally a written summary e.g. Today - Wet and cloudy, Tonight - Cold & dark.

Yep, Jon Mitchell appeared on Granada and Robin (formely) Lermitte was on London, made quite a change for them to appear in GMTV hours.

Must only be a matter of time now before GMTV2 bites the dust, considering it's just a simulcast of CITV on most days and that it has been booted to ITV4, I guess at some point ITV4 will probably have a 24 hour schedule.

I just think it's silly to have a seperate Breakfast time licence nowadays, you would have thought they'd reach an agreement by now, either that or Disney are reluctant to sell their share.

I quite like it that there is a seperate Breakfast license - ITV isnt like it used to be (e.g. not very regional anymore) so its nice to hang onto some of the old school ITV things while will still had them. Mind you GMTV also isnt a patch on TVam IMO.

I think that there is still something special about GMTV but i think that it has bad press. I mean to be honest it isn't unbearable and obviously they still get viewers. I just think that in order for it to pull back the respect and trust of the viewers it just need to clean up. Somebody said to me the other day if you go out and do something and you look confident then the audience will think you are good. The problem is they are very sloppy. I mean look at the titles!!!!
I think it would be a VERY BAD move for itv to take over. GMTV provides news and light-hearted stories in a way I have not seen before. You have to say when there are serious issues they cope very well indeed.
They don't need to do a lot just get everything looking the same and the continuity will be there!

I agree. Some people will think I've lost the plot with this next statement but I think GMTV is somewhat of a national treasure, and something that a lot of people have grown up watching in the mornings. Its not at its best right now but a start would be by fixing the graphics, even if it means reverting completely to the old set until a completely new set is made. They sometimes mess up the opening titles and instead of the sun, we are played the longer titles with the presenters in. This also adds to the sloppyness.

Another minor thing is the weatherboard that was used at the end of 2006. It was massive and shown the floor and Clare/Andrea walking about on the floor. They should consider bringing that back rather than the cramped look they currently have for the weather.

By the way, GMTV already is a channel and timeshare. The only difference is that it doesn't have a seperate LCN like other timesharing channels do. GMTV broadcasts from 6.00am-9.24am, and ITV1 broadcasts from 9.25am-5.59am. ITV just happen to have a majority share in GMTV.

Only a fool relies on Wikipedia for factual evidence.

I'll say this one more time... GMTV2 is moving to ITV4 from Monday so that ITV2 can broadcast 24 hours a day, as I mentioned in the ITV Discussion thread.

You haven't lost the plot, you're just young.

GMTV hasn't been around for that long, so the number of people who have "grown up with it" is relatively small. You obviously did.

I (and anyone 30+) grew up with nothing on the telly in the mornings, and then had TV-am for years and years before GMTV was a glint in anyones eye.

That's not to say that one doesn't feel affection for the things in one's past - but it doesn't mean things can't be improved.

We can all speculate over what we think should happen but the executives at GMTV are the ones that need to do it. The thing i cant get my head around is how they can let the graphics go out looking as they do. I mean this is the second year!!! The current animated sun started in 2006 and we are now in 2008!!! What is going on??? I really like the sun idea but the continuity of ikt is awful. It jused to be on the promos too now all it is is at 7 and 8!

I think you are betraying your youth in that post. GMTV has only been around for a bit over 15 years. Most of the UK had already grown up before it started broadcasting, and in fact the majority of the UK probably had grown up before Breakfast TV started with Breakfast Time on BBC One and TVam in 1983.

We've only had Breakfast telly for 25 years - and lots of us can remember the days before then - and before Channel Four launched for that matter...

Those of us who were around and of an age to be critical when GMTV launched probably have a different view - the "F Factor" launch pairing of Fiona Armstrong and Michael Wilson didn't come close to "national treasure" status I'm afraid - and the recent, deeply cynical, premium rate phone line scandal of recent years can hardly be considered "national treasure" worthy either...

In fact I'm struggling to remember any major aspects of it that are national treasure-worthy - other than Lorraine Kelly.
