ITN isn't a wholly owned ITV plc subsidary is it but nothing prevents it being branded as " ITV News " does it ?

ITV have every right to have their own branding on a programme they commision from a production company, in the same way that Channel 4 News is called Channel 4 News, not ITN.

Not the same thing though. C4 commision ITN for their news. GMTV is a franchise holder for the ITV breakfast franchise. ITV do not commision them and GMTV isnt a programme. Thats why its always been seperate from "ITV".

I think you may have misread my post - I didn't bring GMTV into it.

GMTV is not a news program. Its a current affairs and topical program mixed in with showbiz and "celebrities". ITN taking over their news output but remaining under the GMTV name could work and could work out cheaper, but I doubt a rebrand is on the cards for GMTV to look like a generic ITV News bulletin. I somehow couldn't picture Fiona Phillips sat behind that white desk.

GMTV Kids is not a well known brand these days, and a rebrand to CITV left continuity on the CITV Channel and is a more familiar brand.

Also where did GMTV 2 disappear to ?

Wether ITN Productions or GMTV Productions they are both separate companies to the ITV franchisees.

I. E. An ITN Production For ITV 1, A GMTV Production For ITV 1.

ITN use ITV branding I just wonder how long it will be before GMTV use ITV branding ?

GMTV is a seperate channel. GMTV is not a program. It won't use ITV branding.

I noticed Bob Johnson provided a breif weather forecast during the Tyne Tees news opt-out. Did any other regions do something similar, as it's normally a written summary e.g. Today - Wet and cloudy, Tonight - Cold & dark.

I noticed Fiona is getting more and more rude to guests who appear on the show.. Plus, Richard Arnold seems to have been replaced by Michael Underwood.

Yes, but I was referring just to this part of his argument. Essentially the root. I wasn't aware I had to stay so strictly on topic.

In the Mock Designs section right now there is a very good mock by james889 of new GMTV titles

Reminds me of the Original GMTV titles with the cyclist but more modern

gmtv is not a gmtv production for itv. it is a gmtv production for gmtv. gmtv own the air time between 6.00 and 9.25 - itv network centre have no say in what goes out during that time. iirc the only "gmtv production for itv" was that fun in the sun programme at lunchtime in the 90s, which was commissioned by itv network and shown outside of gmtv's franchise hours.

on the other hand the contract for itv news is awarded by itv network centre to a company listed as suitable by the itc, now ofcom. itv network then pay itn for the provision of news. as itv network (dominated by itv plc), are the paymasters, its not surprising that they influence how the output is branded.

So how does CiTV come into the GMTV equation? Why not keep GMTV Kids?

iirc it was to do with disney's initial hostility to itv creating a childrens channel. as part of the deal gmtv sell all of the ad space on the citv channel. with gmtv therefore having a 'stake' in the new channel it must have seemed stupid to run two competing services - citv and gmtv kids?

Yep, Jon Mitchell appeared on Granada and Robin (formely) Lermitte was on London, made quite a change for them to appear in GMTV hours.

Must only be a matter of time now before GMTV2 bites the dust, considering it's just a simulcast of CITV on most days and that it has been booted to ITV4, I guess at some point ITV4 will probably have a 24 hour schedule.

I just think it's silly to have a seperate Breakfast time licence nowadays, you would have thought they'd reach an agreement by now, either that or Disney are reluctant to sell their share.

Exactly, wouldn't it have made more sense for GMTV2 to move to the CITV channel, since it's basically a simulcast anyway?

Probably because CITV isn't available nationwide on DTT.
