A reminder to all that GMTV2 moves to ITV4 from Monday.

Suspect that the fact it isn't a wholly owned ITV plc subsidiary prevents it being branded as "ITV" and "ITV News" - though I agree to the audience such things mean nothing. It is on channel 3 on their tellies - therefore it is ITV. I'm sure most people don't realise, or care, that TVam and GMTV were and are separate national franchises and consider GMTV to be just a long programme, like Breakfast, on ITV, rather than a separate company.

GMT does use the CiTV branding so why not use the ITV News branding as well? What is the difference?

I do think it would make a difference TBH. Viewers are very, very familiar with the GMTV brand, and to suddenly take that away would be the wrong decision IMO.

Just as in the same way as GMTV Kids was dropped in favour of CiTV!

When does GMTV end it's franchise contract?

Because GMTV News is supposed to be a fairly friendly and concise round up of news done in the style of the programme, a similar situation to look at is why The Big Breakfast news didn't carry Channel 4 News branding

Big Breakfast never had Channel 4 News they had ITN News. A bit pedantic there, I know, but ITN produced the news for Planet24 and not Channel 4 - hence reason no C4 News branding.

Whereas GMTV News is in-house so it could easily be taken over by ITV (ITN) News - juast as in the same was a regional news. (Remember the last few months of TVam when they closed their in-house news service in favour of Sky - cheaper!)

ITN isn't a wholly owned ITV plc subsidary is it but nothing prevents it being branded as " ITV News " does it ? - So as GMTV isn't a wholly owned ITV plc subsidary but the majority shareholding of GMTV is owned by ITV then I cannot see any reason why whatsover that ITV wouldn't step in with it's own branding for the programme or company

ITV now also handles all of GMTV advertisement sales whereas this used to be done in - house by GMTV

They did it with ITN they will do it with GMTV I think

I hope not. I like GMTV to be different to the other ITV News programmes. It would be awful if it got the same branding.

ITV have every right to have their own branding on a programme they commision from a production company, in the same way that Channel 4 News is called Channel 4 News, not ITN.

Not the same thing though. C4 commision ITN for their news. GMTV is a franchise holder for the ITV breakfast franchise. ITV do not commision them and GMTV isnt a programme. Thats why its always been seperate from "ITV".

So how does CiTV come into the GMTV equation? Why not keep GMTV Kids?
