This of course raises another issue. It reveals more about ITV than it does about GMTV. The manner in which ITV has gone about the relaunch of GMTV (as it was first reported), then the announcement of Daybreak, then the uncertainty regarding jobs and presenters is abysmal.

Were you privvy to the internal machinations that happened at ITV and GMTV or are you just basing that opinion on how it was portrayed by the press and on here?

just watched it on V+ Recording planner and they should have made more of an effort to bring all the original team back to the sofa, penny,John etc and have a better closing like TVAM, ashame for a show that's lasted 17 years as said before, I wasn't around then but I can believe tvam was far nicer and a lot less tackier than GMTV

You're rather defensive... to be perfectly honest, your average joe public, let alone us, is only privvy to the portrayal of the press. If people see presenters/high profile names being shafted by a company they worked for, that's how they base their impressions of the company. It's the same with politicians. It's all about meedja portrayal.

We don't all live in TV land.

Yes, but it doesn't mean the media portrayal is correct. You or I don't know what happened, I certainly haven't heard anything about people being 'shafted' by GMTV.

TV presenters know that TV (and showbusiness in general) is a fickle beast. It may seem harsh to those of us with 'normal' permanant day jobs but a TV programme suddenly deciding that someone is out of favour and replacing them with someone else is just a fact of life.

But unfortunately people DO believe the portrayal, no matter how correct... see the recent Daily Mail headlines!

Showbusiness is a very fickle beast - in my line of work 80% of us are out of a job in our industry at any one time - but I think Ms Phillips summed it up perfectly when she said that people need to know who they're waking up with. The majority of the time Breakfast stays the same, with only occasional drafts in on Fridays and at weekends. And people are important to brands that need to be trusted... so GMTV/Daybreak should automatically be less 'showbiz-like' if they were/are expcted to survive.

Remember we make shows that entertain people, not ourselves, and there seems to be a lot of TV execs/producers creaming their pants over a 'gorgeous' set which could have been placed in a warehouse for all the warmth and charm it seems to have. It's a bad sign going from a brand that was trusted (tainted alright, but not damaged beyond repair) to one that has to start all over with those two.

Sadly there was no hint of irony in her voice when she said that - as if she remembered, there was confusion with GMTV presenters on the first day, as with Eammon and Anne were hosting (as it was New Years Day) rather than the regular weekday hosts of Micheal and Fiona.

lol At a Lorraine video on her website talking about the switch-over between her and GMTV. She said the other mob before her used to be dirty! Now she doesn't have to worry about cleaning up

Does that make her wrong?

Sky News have posted the ending on their site, but watch the clip, they seem to be playing the proper 1993 music, rather than the electric guitar version as heard this morning....

They must have pinched that from YouTube. Someone has uploaded an edited version with that music instead. If you watch the very end they've also edited the endcap so that the music finishes in time with the animation. The original is cut off slightly.

Yep, someone's overlaid the original music as the cheering fades out a second or 2 before it does in the real clip.
